Vive Le Batterie!
« on: 26 Oct 2006, 02:54 pm »
I remember when I was really hung up on my power cables.  I spent money on them.  Power conditioning was also crucial - garbage in, garbage out, right?  But which power cables and which conditioner?  The choices are so personal and system specific.  It was a major cause of nervosa that I could literally never know if my power was optimized.  $500 for a power cable?  Well, OK, I guess, everybody says it "completed" their systems.  Again.  But, whatever you get will be trumped next year if you believe the tabloids.

And wait, I don't have dedicated lines from my fusebox.  Everybody says going to dedicated lines is a major improvement.  I wonder how many separate 20 amp circuits I need to run this stuff.

I don't have a vendetta against AC power.  Actually, it comes in very handy.  My stereo has not been fully immunized.  But soon, my DAC and amp will not need it to run, freeing my mind from one of the more insidious symptoms of our common disease.

Thanks, Vin!  (and Charles)

Hi Miklorsmith,

Once you get completely off of the grid, you won't be going back anytime soon  :thumb:

For the new Red Wine Audio webpage, I added a link to SLA battery power in the "About" section: http://www.redwineaudio.com/About_Us.html

http://www.redwineaudio.com/SLA.html

I plan to write more when I find some time, but this is a good start (I hope  :?).

Thanks for posting!

Vinnie

I think it would be nice to add a little environmental awareness to your FAQ and maybe offer a recycling program. These SLA batteries while sounding good are really terrible for the environment if thrown into land fills.

Yeah, and then the next step is to get completely completely off the grid. And perhaps get a little bit of healthful exercise in the process.  :green:

Good idea. Wouldn't want Al Gore to come and open up a can of Campbell's Whoop Ass on Vinnie now would we?  :green:

After seeing that picture of Al Gore ready to "bring the pain," I will have to add a little section to my webpage about recycling the SLA batteries.

In the Sig 30 User's Guide, there is a section about replacing the batteries.  I do state:

Quote
STEP 5: Remove the batteries from their brackets and have them recycled – Do not throw it in the trash!

SLAs should always be recycled  :P

Thanks, guys!

That shot of "Big Al" Gore takin' it to the Rhinos should put the fear into anyone, let alone the message of recycling. Maybe we can get Al Gore and Bob Beckel to do a "Choose Hemp" enviro-ad...to...wear, smoke, and now, Listen to Hemp. ... Al Gore tells us to "get off the grid." Now I know why he invented the internet: to get the word out. Jus' makes sense now.

Using a desulfication system will greatly extend the life of your batteries as well, this is just an example of one of the commercial units...  http://www.batterylifesaver.com/car-auto-battery-charger-products.html
I had a link to a diy version as well, can't seem to find it now.
