Acoustical treatment for a low ceiling.
« on: 25 Oct 2006, 04:55 pm »
My listening room is severely challenged by a low (7'-7") ceiling.  The room will be 34' X 15' with 26' of windows on the right wall and 10' of windows on the rear wall. Presently, it has carpet for floor covering but I'm going to replace it with cork as part of an ongoing remodel/refurbishing project. The low ceiling will require that the acoustical treatment not be more than 2" thick. Presently, there is no treatment other than just some improvised wall hangings and pillows stuffed in the corners. I favor treatments which don't employ materials that have the potential for particulate airborne pollution.
  Any advice will be appreciated.

Look into acoustical cotton then.  It can be used as a core for framed treatments and is available in 1" 3lb and 6lb as well as 2" 3lb densities.
