Has Anyone Replaced the "U" Connectors on the B60?
« on: 24 Oct 2006, 08:30 pm »
Just wondering what people's experiences are with replacing the "U" connectors (pre out/main in) on the B60 with custom jumpers. I was thinking of doing this, but don't want to waste my $ if others haven't had positive experiences?

Not worth it. I tried a number of things in place of the jumpers back when I had a B60 and swapping the jumpers, whatever you may otherwise read, never made any difference.

If your B60 is pre-SST, I would listen to the newer ones as the SST design is audibly superior to the older ST amplifiers IMO.

I have a non SST B60 and tried replacing the stock jumpers with 1 meter Bryston interconnects.  It was a very non scientific test but I thought there was enough of a difference to warrant leaving the $150 US brystons in the loop.

FWIW, I'm not a big believer in the audibility of cable differences unless a manufacturer has deliberately voiced them for certain characteristics.

Okay. One vote for, and one against. After I posted, I swapped the jumpers for a 1m VDH D102 MK111. The soundstage seemed to open-up a bit, the highs seemed a little accented, and the bass was gone...The jumpers are back in now.

Of course, shorter custom jumpers may have a more positive impact than a 1m IC. I have some solid silver DH labs wire around somewhere; maybe I'll whip-up some custom jumpers and see...

I have an older version of the B60 and I have experimented with various interconnects in place of the "U" connectors including Kimber Silver Streaks and Monster Cable 400. They both made noticeable improvements in soundstaging, detail and dimensionality. The best replacement cable was my diy 99.99% pure silver cable terminated with Silver Eichmanns. All I can say is to experiment with different cables to see which ones sounds best to your ears. :)

Cool. Thanks for the tip. I have some solid silver wire around somewhere. I'm assuming that there's no need to run a ground on the jumpers, just the signal, right? (assuming the pre out/amp in) is internally grounded...
