What else is needed?  Any XO rework?

Tell me they're a 15-second retrofit and I'm in.

You will be getting my order in January, when I am back in the states.  How about my center channel?

Do the CDWG's work with the spiral ribbon tweeter?

B, will answer the X-crossover and equalization question, but quite simply the CDWG "snaps" on instead of the grill.

If you have FST tweeter, you will likely want to "dehorn" it.

I'm not sure if a CDWG is possible for the LRC, maybe B, can answer that.

As a 626R owner, I'm definitely interested in the waveguide.

What exactly needs to be done to make them work properly on a pair of 626Rs with the FSTs? I understand snapping them into the little holes for the grillls, but what else? X-over, dehorning the tweeter - is there a step-by-step guide?

Thanks

Brian Cheney told me that the tweeter should be de-horned and the xover changed. Send the speakers to Itone and I think the whole thing was about $300 plus shipping.

So. . .the "real" cost is about $375 + being without speakers for a month +?

If you send your 626's to the factory we take them completely apart, install new crossovers, add BH5 cabinet damping, dehorn the tweeter, install the CDWG, and then do a critical listening/crossover tweaking/level control adjusting session that occupies me for about two hours.

That's what you get for your $300 plus shipping.  If necessary you'll get new shipping cartons, no charge.

I'm close to deciding to send in my 626Rs, but I have a couple or 3 questions -

1) The sensitivity goes down when the CDWG is in place, I think I read by 1.5dB. What does this mean in real terms? With my passive preamp (Sonic Euphoria) I lsten mostly with the volume control at around the 1:00 position - will this be a problem to achieve the same volume level?

2) I currently have my 626Rs toed-in to cross 2 feet in front of my listening position for best imaging. Will I need to change the set-up? Are they better pointing straight ahead with the CDWGs in place?

3) If I don't like the CDWGs (not that I imagine I won't like them, but what if?), and I decide to remove them, is the speaker's balance messed up so that they only sound good with the waveguides in place? The x-over changes and dehorning the tweeter must seriously affect the speakers' high end.

Thanks for the replies.

Hi Mike,

I got your PM, and you were right I missed this one.

1) You are correct, the CDWG does lower the output 1.5 db, but it would be impossible to know how much that would affect your system.  If 1:00 is not close to full volume, then likely you'll just have to run a little hotter, which is a good thing, since in general most volume controls sound better wide open (not all)

2) It is still best to maintain the same convergence, but with the CDWG it can be less precise.

3) Once the "re-equalization" is performed, the only way to "go back" is to "un-re-equalize".

So if we want to do the CDWG mod to a 626r FST, we get a de-horn kit plus new grill and some new crossover components?
