Hi there, this is my first post to audiocircle and the reason for the sign up is that I have found someone else that owns the same amp as me!! I am also extremely happy with my G&W, luckily for me though we have a distributor here in New Zealand bringing in very limited numbers, I think only 4 made it in! Now I was lucky enough to borrow the G&W, a Shanling SLM-A40 MKII, a Cambridge Audio 640 v1 and my Marantz 5500 HT amp when I was auditioning for a new amp. My Source for testing - and I bought this in the end - is a Shanling CD-s100 mkII. My speakers are Jamo E850 Floorstanders. It became very obvious that the Cambridge Audio, and my Marantz were being outclassed in every aspect. It basically came down to the Shanling and the G&W, I better note here that the Shanling is $1000NZ (~$600US) more expensive than the G&W. Now the Shanling is a very good amp but it wasnt the difference in $$ that made me choose the G&W. The shanling has a slightly nicer mid range - probably due to the pure Class A output, but there was a lack of bottom end, there was no slam and impact, the G&W reminded me of an Audiolab amp with its authority and impact. Now if I only listened to acoustic music or I listened to classical...  I probably would have gone the Shanling, but I listen to a wide range of music and the small difference in Mids, was nothing compared with the difference at the bottom. This is a great amp, highly recommended. Negatives: No Pre-outs, no remote - but this didnt bother me as my Shanling CD-s100 mkII has volume control on the remote... I have also compared it against Denon PMA-535R, Rotel RA-930AX mkII and a Sony FB-940R and I am yet to be disappointed.

See my Gallery for some pictures - Sorry about the quality they were taken using a phone.

Do you have any gear that is ready for U.S. current or are all you offerings strickly for EU and such. Some of this stuff looks interesting.
Thanks,
Chris

Ornec,

I have heard that the G&W products are the result of a chinese university course dedicated to audio.
They take the best designs and put them into production or something? Is this true?

BTW how much does it cost to ship one of these amps to Australia?

WOW, I wish I was as lucky...   Saved up money a long time for this amp ( 18 years old working in a glass house for 5 euro's a hour)

Ornec,    I'm thinking of upgrading my speakers to the von masoch fb1,   Do you think the G&W will match well with them?     and what color/finish are they?   The response 2.5's look good to, but maybe a bit pricy for me... Are they much better?

I'm still not sure wether it will be an upgrade from my B&W dm603s3's.
Thanks for the amp,   your service is excellent!

I would'nt mind to review those speakers against my B&W's ,  I could pay the shipping costs for you if I can keep them,   Or another amplifier against the great G&W.

Greetings
Robert

PS: wow that dussun u3i looks very good !,  wonder how it would sound with my turntable!

I wonder if the SB2 would sound better, on the other side of the amp chassis - from what I can tell, it is presently situated above that Burger sized toroid, I wonder if you would notice anything, if you slid the book and SB2 over to the right?

I did exactly what you said ( and put some foam underneath instead of the book)    WOW, the bass is much clearer now,  everything sounds very airy !

jampot; thanks for the input but it has nothing to do with copied Cd's. Good old Ecms (Keith Jarret!)
and others I'm keeping track of as I go along. No rhythm or reason that I can see. The guy who modded this also is stumped. Did anyone else notice the offer to me of a FREE tw-2006x or was I dreaming? Did I push someones corporate button or do "they" have a warehouse full of the stuff they can't unload? No offence
please Ornec. When I see it on my doorstep I'll light incense and say prayers for your health, welfare and longlife (Chinese style). Now people, if those Chinese clone loadspeakers were as good as they are cheap,
we'd really have reason to cheer. I mean anyone can build a half decent amp, with the right parts and know-how, but loadspeakers??? that's a whole nother ball game.

Shep I mustn't have been clear - I'm suggesting you try copying the cds that give problems. (the audio tracks only)

If they have interactive content sometimes it screws up the player....

ok, will do. By the way, sharing is half the fun. This is where I got my modded Marantz (it's the one on their
page relating to mods) serious work, not to crazy (who's dumb enough to pay $1000 of mods on a 200$ player?), responsive to feedback. Sounds good too, after turning the 50hr http://www.sercal-electronics.co.uk. Hey can we start an audiophile pauper's circle? I HATE hearing about stuff I can never afford. It totally distorts my listening pleasure!
