RM30s on Order
« on: 19 Oct 2006, 03:14 pm »
Well, I should be soon joining the VMPS family.  Last weekend I sent Casler a check for a pair of RM30Ms (John, let me know when the check arrives).  I wanted 40s, but my wife nixed them - too big!.  She likes the 30s though...

Anyway, here's what's coming:
RM30M - PIANO Rosewood with piano CDWG
SUPERMAX OXO with a plate amp built into the OXO box. (I don't have room for the separate amps)
All of the parts that make the Signature package...SR71,TRTs....

Now comes the worst part - the waiting!

Hi Bob,

I just got in this morning from being Out of Town, and you order was waiting for me in the Mail.

B, will be placing it in the Que later this morning, and while we don't want him to "rush" he will get them to you ASAP.

You still have the set up and adjustment process, which is like "sculpting" a sonic statue.

Take a little of there, and add a little here, move it forward, backward, converge it a little less off axis, etc, will be the task for a few weeks and then, while they will always sound spectacular, they will at some moment, will project a sonic epiphany, and it will be time to do nothing but enjoy the music. :green:

I got my RM30Ms about 6 weeks or so ago.  They may take a while to break in.  But they are fantastic, the more I listen the more I'm amazed.

All the talk about setup etc. seemed a bit daunting at first, mainly because I'm pretty lazy and don't want to spend time fiddling.  The passive radiators were damped perfectly by Big B.  The only adjustment I ended up making was turning the tweeters down just a tiny bit during breaking.  Everything else was placement and room acoustics.  Now I just listen a whole lot.

6 weeks?

You are in for a treat.

Let us know what you think in 6 months.

I don't know how they do it, but some how they just keep getting better over that first 6 months. aa

Bob,

Glad to hear you ordered your RM30s.  I recently received my rebuilt RM40s from Brian.  For the rebuild I got the MLS cabinets and CDWGs and the Supermax OXO crossovers.  Options included all of the them (SR71 treatment, TRT caps, etc.).  Needless to say that they sound absolutely amazing.  Compared to my original RM40s (Auricaps without CDWGs) the bass of the new speaker is better defined and the midrange and treble is less harsh, but more detailed.

It takes ~4-6 weeks to receive the speakers.

Best,

John

As John said above, you're in for a treat. These speakers sound so real that it takes some time to get your system dialed in. This is because you're so much more aware of small differences than were audible before.

Take your time and enjoy the process, the music will sound unusually good throughout the process. The only thing is now you will be spoiled for life.
