Cross Over and Subs
« on: 19 Oct 2006, 12:14 am »
My new 626R's have arrived and I've gotten them broken in so I'm starting to play a little bit. First I would like to add that Brian has done a lot of work in the past 15 years. There is a world of improvement, like night and day between my old 626's (with the dual woofers and dome tweeter in the center) and these. Great speakers I love them

My question is what do I do re: crossovers etc. My setup is a Lexicon DC-2 and 2 original subwoofers, I am only concerned about 2 channels now. I have been running my 2 original subs out of the sub output with a Y connector and 125 watts for each sub. I had the crossover on the Lexicon set it 40 hz and I was doing pretty good. I switched it to no crossover and it sounds fuller but seems to resonate and is almost too up front, I'm not sure I like it but maybe I could play with the sub level and my putty and straighten things out. I also have a vmps crossover I got with my first sub and I thought about using it but I didn't want to with two speakers and one crossover (I guess I could buy another one but I'm feeling poor after purchasing my speakers). Also I know stereo subs would be better but I'm not sure how to get there. I have the amps but I'm not sure about the crossover thing. Any suggestions?

I wouldn't run without a crossover. The best crossover point for the 626R's is probably closer to 70hz. Brian will know exactly where the optimal point is.

After you do that you may want to move your speakers and/or sub around the room a bit as well as adjusting the putty.
