Regina Spektor, anyone?
« on: 18 Oct 2006, 01:44 am »
Now let me start by saying that I listen to little music with vocals - They often just get in the way of the jamming. But I heard her interviewed on NPR (available on the website) and she sounded so fun and intelligent - They played a few cuts and I wanted to pick it up, not really knowing what to expect. CD is "Begin to Hope" I think listening to the interview will greatly add to your appreciation for this disk.

OK I go kooky here: I can't believe how this disc has cut a path to my soul in ways I can't remember happening before. Something with that sweet, sexy, fun yet unpretentious voice just connects with me on some level. I am kept up at night with the songs in my head, and before I rise there's already another one playin' up there.

Sound quality? I don't think I've even asked myself! Most listening has been in the car at 4 MPH on Rt 78E in the AM, so no comment there.

And one song in particular (#2) has me sobbing every time I don't skip over it (we are currently enduring some major league medical shit here with my beautiful daughter and this combined with that song, well, its just too much emotion to handle right now..."If I kiss you where it's sore, will you feel better..." :bawl:)
OK, OK, I sound like a major loon here, but there is something about Regina that has touched me in a place that no other music has. Maybe because I simply don't listen to that kind of music, I was left vulnerable and in a vulnerable state when she came along.
No problems if noone else feels this way, but I keep hearing more about her and she'll be big soon.

So I guess this not a review of the artist, but a review of myself and how I am relating to the artist. The association is just so strong, I wanted to share my thoughts with you guys.

I almost regret buying it, it has so invaded my cranial landscape and set up shop.

So if you pick it up, you may say "eeeh, just like the other 25 of 'em I've heard"  But for me there is something magical and creepy going on, which is about the highest state the we music lovers (music does have something to do with our hobby, doesn't it?!) can attain.

Thanks for letting me babble - Maybe a fan of female vocals will check it out and let us know what he and the sig other thinks.  Bye. (Maybe Wolfy can find an image to post, since jeez, what are you on the iinternet all night or what (no,no please don't leave the Circle!!!)

I've not yet checked-out her new album, but i like soviet kitsch quite a bit. The recording quality is not so hot, but it's interesting/fun music. You might also like tori amos (boys for pele, little earthquakes, or tales of a librarian are good starting points), since you like regina spektor.

Hey!

I do have her new album "Begin to Hope".... thanks to Levi of whom introduced me to this album at one of the NY Rave at Hogg. :D

Yes, it is a nice album. A fun album to listen to, eventhou I do not like all the songs there. The recording is pretty good. Lots of heavy bass line on some tracks.... no wonder Levi like this CD

I might check out her older album :D

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

A couple of months ago I heard a very catchy song coming from my daughters ipod and asked, "who is that?" Well the song was Fidelity from Begin to Hope. Bought the cd and listened to it. It's been in heavy rotation for a month now. In fact you can find Regina Spektor listed in the now playing section on one of my previous posts.
