Are these the German made variety that Gary has?

Don't know of any Amperex 6922 that were made in Germany. To my knowledge, all were made in Holland or the USA.

I am definitely a novice in the tube world, but Gary Dodd told me that he had some Amperex 7308's that were labeled "made in Germany" that he suspected were actually Seimens tubes. My mistake, not 6922's. BTW, what is the primary difference in the 7308 and the 6922?

Great summary, description and history of the tubes that comprise this family (6dj8, 6922 and 7308) at the Brent Jessee site:

Yes, I would suspect they are Siemens.

Man, that figured Bubinga is really something spectacular to behold.

I know it would probably be overkill(and damn expensive), but Id love to have a set of large speakers in that. Woouldn't go with anything else in my house, but who cares!

Well, Playintheblues ??? What is your impression?  I have to live vicariously through the other 19 as it looks like mine is probably the last to be shipped. :bawl:.  Also, is there a consensus that the US made Amperex 6922's are THE best? What about the german tubes?

S Clark,  I had to let the batterys charge and have only listen for about 30 minutes.  However the two words I would use are SWEET and WOW!  I had/have a decent pre it's a Grounded Grid and Mike G upgraded it for me.  He did work on the power supply and added Jensen oil caps, bypassed with platinum sonic caps. and i then had the whole unit cryoed, which I also had done to the Dodd before Gary put the batterys in.  This Dodd pre is dead quite and has ALOT of bass.  It sounds very open and natural but let me put some time on it and I will give a full review at that time.

Does anyone know if I can use 12ax7 tubes in my new Dodd Battery Preamp (That really feels good to say that now).  The preamp I'm replacing uses 12ax7's but all I'm reading hear is about the 6922's and the 7308's etc.  Of the 12ax7's that I have, by far my favorites are the 1963? NOS Tungsrams from Hungary.  My second favorites are the Amperex Bugle Boys from Holland.  The Amperex's have real good mids but not quite the bass slam my Tungsrams have.

Does anyone know if Tungsram, or maybe better yet Telefunken makes the 6922's or 7308's?  That is if I can't use 12AX7's.

Gary is making me a pair of 50 watt mono's that I'll be getting fairly soon but while I'm waiting he modified my integrated amp to use as a power amp until they're done.  He shipped that amp back to me today and It won't be long now before I get to listen to my new PRE!  I'm jumping out of my skin with anticipation.

No, the Dodd only takes the 6DJ8/6922/7308 family of tubes.  These are the only ones that will work in the preamp.  Telefunken does make these, and they are highly thought of, and I think Tungsram makes them too.

And don't forget the European designations for these tubes: ECC88 (6DJ8), E88CC or CV2492 (6922), and E188CC (7308).

I just put a bid on two E88CC 6922 Telefunken tubes.  Current bid is at $78 (StereoLarry).  For anyone interested consider that A warning!
