Gary called me today and said I could pick it up.
Danny was right when he said it would be worth the wait.
I haven’t spent much time with it yet so all I can offer is first impressions.

In my room, with my gear, this preamp makes the music sound significantly better.
It’s much heavier than I expected.
It looks better than I expected.
H/T mode works perfectly even with the preamp off.

For those of you waiting, hold your breath a few more days.
Once the music starts I think you’ll be glad you did.

There are few pieces of gear that I’ve bought over the years that made an immediate, significant, positive change in the music. This Dodd Battery Powered Preamp is one of them.

Now you just have to have Curly Woods make you matching wooden face plates for the rest of your electronics...

That is the best looking pre-amp that I have ever seen.

I can't wait to get mine now. I have one coming in quilted Maple too.

Gary wasn't kidding, that does look like a piece of art and it probably even sounds good lol.
I would love to have one of those to go with my Dodd 120s.

Thanks for all of the postitive feedback.
Gary did a great job.

I was concerned about the light wood.
I certainly wouldn't have picked anything light, but my wife liked it and I wanted to involve her.
Now I'm very happy I deferred to her.

When I picked it up a Gary's I got a peek at the rest of them and they all look great.
The finish is like glass and very difficult to shoot without getting reflections.

After a DIY event in Dallas yesterday, I swung by Gary's and picked up my pre-amp. It looks unbelievably good.

I also got to take a look at all the various wood being used on these, at least the ones that weren't already boxed for shipping on Monday. I saw the matching wood going on all the amps and balanced power supplies too. It was all awesome.

There was enough pieces ordered that Gary hopes to have 5 extra pre-amps to take to the RMAF. I saw some of them. The figured Bubinga looked beautiful. The curly Maple looked awesome too. Then there was one made from a rare and hard to find piece of spalted Sycamore. This one my become Gary's personal unit unless someone offers enough to pry it out of his hands. I think Gary intends to offer some show specials on the ones going to the show. If you want one then you better speak up fast.

Here are the 5 pre-amps that are going to the show. You better let Gary know ahead of time if you want one at the show special pricing. These may not last long.

The quarter sawn Sycamore looks like "snake skin" and then add spalting to it.......your right, it is Da Bomb.

Wow!

They all look very nice. While I'm not normally a fan of light wood, from the pictures I'd have to say the lighest ones really bring out the grain and accentuate the metal better.
