Who makes a high quality and affordable PC these days?

Just about everyone.  Dell, IBM, Gateway, HP, Sony, eMachine makes a quality pc for $1K.  Whichever you pick is just a matter of personal taste.  I build my own PC so I get to pick which component I want to install like SCSI HDDs as an example.
