It is time to open the gates to Signature 70 Monoblock pre-orders:

The pricing on these has been set at $2799.00 a pair (plus shipping, which will be done via two boxes... one for each monoblock). Feel free to email me with your Zip Code and I can give the est. shipping cost.

OK, I have decided to follow Ian's suggestion (thanks, Ian!). From now until the end of the month (October 31st), the pre-order price for a pair of Signature 70 Monoblocks will be $2499.00 (plug shipping).

I plan to begin production in November.

A webpage still needs to be made for the Signature 70s, but in the meantime here are the details:

-- Each monoblock will use the same enclosure as the Signature 30, but the rear panel will be configured for only one channel.

-- Same faceplate, but will be laser etched "Signature 70... High Current SLA Battery Powered Monoblock Amplifier"

-- The Signature 30 board will be custom modified to configure the TK2051 chipset into “paralleled-output mode”… doubling the max output current sourcing capability. Into a 4-ohm load, this will provide a very clean 70 to 75 watts.

-- All the same internal parts, wiring, batteries, 24-hour play time, charger (each monoblock will have its own charger), etc. as the Signature 30. A DACT CT-2 Mono precision stepped attenuator will be used instead of the stereo version used in the Signature 30. Same custom machined aluminum knob.

-- Same volume controlled RCA output jack (one per monoblock since there is only one channel per monoblock) for connecting to a powered subwoofer or another amplifier for bi-amping.

-- Same "rich, well-balanced musical presentation that exhibits the best sonic attributes of solid state amplification (rock solid bass, dynamics, and control) and SET tube amplification (midrange warmth, rich tonalities and a smooth non-fatiguing upper frequency resolution)" that has made the Signature 30 highly regarded, AND expect improved soundstaging, imaging, and space... and SLAM when needed! You will also find the upper mid-range and top end to be a tad bit warmer too.

I have close to 50 hours of burn-in on the prototypes here. These are absolutely the finest sounding RWA amplifiers to date, not to mention the only high-current, off-the-grid SLA powered monoblocks in production!

Hi Nick,

People who take advantage of the preordering will be the first ones in line to get their hands on the Signature 70s (I build them in the order in which I receive the pre-orders).

The new enclosures have been ordered, as have all the other parts.

Production is expected to begin in early November. I expect that they will start shipping no later than mid-November.

My goal is to also be pretty much caught up with my Signature 30 backlog by the end of this month.... I'm definitely trying my best here! aa

Hi brj,

Into a pure 8-ohm load, the Sig 70s output is still 30 watts (just like the Sig 30).

With a speaker whose impedance dips down to 4-ohms, you'll get 70 watts.

The Sig 70 uses the same board as the Sig 30, but the board is modified into "paralled output mode," which doubles the max output current that it can deliver. This converts the board into a one channel board.

As I mentioned above besides the doubling of output current, I have found that the Sig 70s offer improved soundstaging, imaging, and space... and bottom end when needed! You will also find the upper mid-range and top end to be a tad bit warmer too. This is attributed to the monoblock operation (separate power supplies and complete isolation between the channels) and the change in the output stage circuit (to conversion to paralled output mode).

Over the weekend, we tried them with DeVore Fidelity Gibbons Super 8s and the Sig 70s pushed them very well.

Great combo there! Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to try them with those Quad 57s

Vinnie, I would appreciate knowing a bit more about how the Sig 70 and the Sig 30 handle the very highest treble notes. If I were to play SACD, will the amps pick up the highest notes (over 20 KHz) to keep the air and sparkle of a smooth SS amp? I like hearing that your treble is very smooth, refined, and non-fatiguing, but I wonder if there is any sacrifice in extension. Would it be possible to provide a frequency response graph? Any further discussion on the upper octave performance, and whatever subtle differences you find between the Sig. 30 and 70 in the treble, would be very helpful.

Unfortunately, I do not have a FR plot to show HF reponse above 20kHz. Listening to the the Signature 30 or Signature 70s, I am confident that you will find a very extended sounding top end with plenty of air, sparkle, and a sense of space in the top end that will rival some of the best SS amps, be it Class A, AB, or whatever

. And it does this without glare or fatigue.

Regarding the Sig 30 vs Sig 70 in the treble, I have found the Sig 70 to be just tad bit smoother, but not in a way that makes you feel you are missing anything. The fact that there is a little more bottom-end heft with the Sig 70 might be a reason for this (the all-over tonal balance is just slightly different).

As always, the only way to know how either of the RWA Signature Amplifiers synergizes the rest of your system (source, preamp...if used, speakers, room, etc.) is to give it a try. This is why I believe offering a no-risk, 30-day money-back return policy is important.

Hi tvad4,

Yes, this is correct. Because the Signature 70s have twice the output current, they can drive a 4 ohm load with a very conservative 70 watts (at 0.04% THD+N... and more like 90 watts at 0.4% THD+N).

The Signature 30 driving a 4-ohm load will not give you much more than 40 watts.

Hey, Vin. I'm seriously tempted to pony up for these bad boys. I'll have to sell a kidney (OK, a bunch of dormant gear) but these could easily find a home in one of the rigs.

I can't see from the photos - are there markings on the cases to demark volume setting? I used to have an Audiozone AMP-1 (shouldn't have sold that one) that didn't have the markings on its dual-mono volume controls. It was a PITA to figure out if they were on the same setting. I don't think this would be a dealbreaker but just wondering.

Hi miklorsmith and tvad4,

There are no markings on the front panel to demark volume setting. Each Signature 70 uses a DACT CT2 mono stepped attenuator, which has 24 volume steps...NOT a continuous volume control (potentiometer) which is a royal PITA to match each amp. You can count steps to match them, or you can easily do it by eye if the monoblocks are next to each other (there is a red marking on the volume knob).

You might also want to set one monoblock at at step or two above/below the other one if to make up for room acoustics.... to balance the sound if needed.

Production is still on schedule to begin early next month. I am waiting on the enclosures, but in the meantime I will be building the boards (which are crazy time consuming!). I can't promise, but I WILL try my best.
