Pickin’ on AC/DC etc.

I just got Back In Bluegrass… The Bluegrass Tribute to AC/DC.  This album is the most foot-stompin’ fun I’ve had with music in a very long time.  I’ve never been a bluegrass fan, but these (mostly) acoustic versions of classic rock hits are a blast to listen to and some of them jam just as hard as the originals.    There’s a lot of other bands paid tribute in the “Pickin’ On” series such as Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Skynyrd and Hendrix to name just a few

While researching this series online, I discovered there’s a whole series of string quartet tributes too.  I bought the tribute to Jet, which is great!  The tribute to Black Sabbath sounds as if they’re going to saw the strings right off their instruments!!!   :thumb:

Sound quality is excellent on both of the discs I bought.

Anybody else into either of these series?  If so, which discs are your favs?

I have Pickin' on Santana and have enjoyed it quite a few times.

If you like this, you might want to give a listen to Hayseed Dixie. Bluegrass versions of AC/DC and others. They can be a bit over the top but the boys can definately play. There are some live shows available on archive.org. This Page lists their shows. A very good one is can be found here. This is a sound board recording done by the band and is of excellent quality with lossless compression. Yes these are legit, they are taper friendly. :thumb:

More in the vein of string quartet tributes is the Group Apocolyptica, they do a tribute to Metalica and they are four celloists

It's not a tribute group (though they have a cover album called The Lost and Found), but if you cello/rock music, you might check-out the group Rasputina. Thanks for the Ether and Radical Recital are favorites of mine.

I had a string quartet's tribute to Tool but didn't really care for it much.  I have a piano tribute to Radiohead that is pretty good.

The GAS guys have a couple of fun ones to listen to.

Blackmore turned me onto Run C&W. Its a bunch of Country musicians that are doing a takeoff of Run DMC. The pickin is pretty darned good.

heres one of their albums re-issued
Run C&W

Then I ran across another called Fade to Bluegrass. More Country guys doing a tribute to Metallica's Fade to Black (the Black album). Its a hoot too.

There are some more floating around here but their names escape me at the moment. Maybe the GAS guys will chime in.
