Awsome bass from my Super Bipoles
« on: 4 Oct 2006, 07:51 am »
It is incredible the bass that these little 4" Fostex drivers pump out. I have a 10" sealed sub but unless I set the crossover down to 40Hz it just muddies up the imaging and does not add to the impact of the lower registers. I think that these speakers need to be exercised frequently and vigorously to be at their best otherwise, like your dog, they will become listless and bored. They improve with age. I was playing Charles Lloyd this evening with the lights off and the soundstage blossomed before me wide and deep and the imaging was not the artificialy clean and neat digital variety but the texture you actually hear in a live performance with the nuances and intermingling of instruments and surroundings. That double-bass was well represented through my Super Bipoles.

That just sounds super awesome.   :drums:  I've repeatedly seen comments about how much bass the little fostex put out... very surprising.  My XRS's are on their way to me and can't wait to hear them play.

Yes, I know what you are talking about.  I too, have a pair the Super Bipoles.  I have a question though.  Is it the little Fostex drivers that deliver the bass, or is it Louis' cabinet design that delivers it?  Obviously, its a combo...I think. But, I still don't really understand how it works.

Hi Brett,

Your Signature 30 will ship out on Friday.  You'll love it with the Super 3 Bipoles!

Best regards,

Hi rajacat,

Many thanks for your post regarding the Bipoles and I agree with you 100% about subs. I try my best to get a much bass out of the speakers so you won’t need it.

You really hit it with needing to play them frequently. All single drivers that I have used are this way and they can stiffen up when not used. Even transit time during shipping does it. At shows it’s always mandatory to run them all night before the show.

The key is the driver alignment and cabinet material, but also the ability to load the room.

Hi coolwater,

Thanks and you should get them real soon.

Hi bprice2,

It’s a combo and this Fostex driver is very surprising. I’m very impressed in what it can do. I can’t wait for you to hear the Sig 30. Great combination.

Thanks again,
Louis
