Canadian source for AKSA 100 enclosure

Hi, guys.

I'd prefer a Canadian source for the enclosure for my impending AKSA 100, just to save the cross-border hassle. If anyone can recommend a supplier, and indeed any cases that work particularly well, I'd be very interested. The same applies to power switches and other miscellaneous odds and sods.

Pauly, if you should happen to read this: I've lost your email and telephone number!

check out:  http://www.partsconnexion.com/catalog/chassisandknobs.html

Too bad you just missed their 15% off sale  :(    They are pretty friendly on the phone so maybe you could try.

I ordered a chassis from NY and got dinged for duties so stay local if you can.  good luck with the build... are you in the montreal area by any chance???

Thanks, Jim. The Par-Metal cases are the most likely candidates I've found so far, but I'd rather stay this side of the border if I can (I'm in BC).

Given that I'll probably end up throwing the sides away and replacing them with the heatsinks, maybe it makes more sense to have something bent up locally...

just to be clear.. parts connexion is indeed in Canada (Ontario).. I had ordered from someone else.  If you still want to find someone to bend metal you might try a 'roofing' shop as I was just at a friend's house and she had some pretty nice metal panels that had nice straight bends in them- when it comes time to build my GK-1 I will go there to see if they can't make me some covers for my transfos.  in any case, good luck.  jim

Hello Martyn,

I used plate aluminum , 3 flat pieces, top, back, and faceplate. With a hardwood bottom . The heatsinks are the sides of course. Only 4 panels needed to make the box, along with simple bracing and fasteners
I didn't really look into commercially available enclosures.
As for the odds and sods,

Good, quick service ,lots of parts you just can't find in Victoria.
Universal sheet metal, here in town, are great for any metal fabrication.

I'll PM my email.
Cheers

Got it. Thanks, Paul.

I was thinking along similar lines, except that there needs to be a few folded edges so that the various panels can be joined together, unless the rear panel is made thick enough to be able to drill and tap into, but that makes too much work in cutting all the holes for the connectors. There is another solution, but it's starting to get complicated. I'll give it some more thought. Cheers,

Martyn
