Dan Guevara's movingui HT3's with a Mexican flair...

Dan had a home with a lot of natural wood and wanted something lively.  He wanted to know if we could do a pair in movingui (also known as African satinwood).

I had always wanted to use this striking wood.  But it is quite bright.  So I thought I would wait until someone ordered it.

When we discussed the project, Dan wanted to know what wood I would recommend for the front baffles.  It just so happened that I had purchased a piece of exquisite Mexican Prima Vera lumber for another project.  It didn't work out for that one, but would be perfect for this pair of HT3's.

The Prima Vera had some really nice grain and coloration.  And the colors were a perfect compliment to the movingui.

Here are some pictures...

And a close up...

Despite my best efforts, I was not able to take a picture that really captured the richness of these woods.  You really have to see them in person to appreciate

Fortunately, those visiting room 1114 at the Rocky Mountain Audiofest this month may have just such an opportunity.  Dan lives in CO but is on the road quite a bit.  So I offered to bring them to RMAF where he could pick them up in person on Saturday afternoon.  So those attending the show on Friday and Saturday morning will be able to see these speakers in person.

Happy listening Dan!

I don't know if you noticed it or not, but the Primavera front baffles are from the board that I originally purchased for Patty's speakers.  Unfortunately, they didn't match.  But they really worked well on this pair!

Hi Jim,
I arrived at work this Monday morning still sleepy (630am), saw your email, opened the attached pictures, then WOW! My jaw dropped in disbelief. For I minute I didn't believe the pair of HT3 were MINE?
They were so nice looking, excellent job Jim.

Now I can't wait till I see it and pick it up at RMAF in Denver. I'm sure I will enjoy them for a long long time. As it will be powered by a 550-watt hybrid power amp, a very sweet musical vacuum tube preamp, DAC, and Grado phono.

Jim and staff, thank you.

Dan

Congratulations on your lovely speakers....just sorta curious about
the rest of your system.  Namely the Hybrid AMP.  And if I may be
so prying...what will these nice speakers be replacing?  Cheers.
I hope to be at RMAF...I'l look forward to seeing these.

Thank you. The HT3 will be replacing my old B&W 801-F that I have enjoyed for the last 23 years. The hybrid amp is AVA's Ultra 550 together with my favorite AVA's sweet-sounding Super Pas3. The HT3s will be at RMAF whole day on Frid & Sat morning. I won't make it to the show until Saturday morning, then take the HT3 home in the afternoon. I will listen to i, until I head out of town Sunday afternoon. Won't be back for another 2 weeks. Not much time to listen, but I'm sure I will enjoy every minute of it every time. Hope to see you at the show.
