A friend of mine who used to work at an audio dealer just sent me a picture of what the Bryston will look like a couple of days back.  So it must be soon.

PS - was going to send you the photo but your E-Mail is hidden.  It looks really nice with the Bryston logo on the CD drawer.  It's likely my local dealer won't carry it so I'm kind of sad.  I'd love to have the opportunity to see what it does vs. what is in my system now.  I might be more interested in the DAC (whenever that comes out as I use one now) but I figure my local dealer won't carry that for sure.  I'm hoping he at least will have the CD player (although it's doubtful) so I can at least hear it and then I can wait until the DAC is out and ask James and others who have experienced both their observations.  I just prefer the DAC as I really think down the road somewhere I will have a media server replacing stuff like my CD Recorder (which I use to make copies for the car), my DVD recorder (don't use it much as I don't watch TV but dub vacation video), HDTV tuner, DVD playback source (perhaps one of new hi-def formats by the time I'm really ready for such a server), etc.

Hi

Have unhidden my email address and would be very interested to see your pics. My CDP was only a cheap one - a Cyrus quattro - and I was using it as a transport into a Cyrus DAC X which has had very good reviews here in the UK. But am not sure now whether or not the DAC is the route to take as my setup suffered from dropouts. Tried changing cables and inputs to no avail and I gather from reading forums that this is a common problem with transport DAC combos. Never happened with my plain old CDP though.

As you say a DAC would upgrade a PC music server (and much more) but doesn't the DAC have to have a USB input? Will the Bryston DAC be PC compatable? Most of the HiFi DACs I've looked at are not!

Hi All,

We have a prototype CD player which I am experimenting with but we are still at least 3 months away from releasing anything.

Our outboard DAC will have a USB input.

James sent the file of the prototype player to my friend.  I sent it to one other friend (who has an SP1.7, a 9BSST and currently a Sony XA-9000ES source) who I became friendly with when my friend worked at the high end shop and met him doing his delivery/install.  As it is a of James' origination and a prototype at this point, I feel obligated to let him make the call on a public posting of the picture.  If your E-Mail was not hidden, I would send it to you with a note to that effect and let you make the call.  I'm a big fan of Bryston products and customer treatment (I've owned their stuff in the past and switched to others things and now have an SP 1.7, a 14BSST and a 6BSST and learned 1st hand of the value of quality merchandise and support) and want to treat them with the same respect they show us.  When I have had a question, I have gotten prompt answers from James or those he referred to Chris.  Doing deliveries/installs over a 5 yr. period with my friend, I have seen Bryston go above and beyond for their customers.  Like all of you, I wish their products would get to the market stage faster (e.g. HDMI on the SP2/SP1.7) but appreciate the care they take in quality control.  I've spent big bucks and seen 1st hand of things rushed to market and to put it politely - not the greatest customer service and support (e.g. PMDT - need I say more?:)).

Looking forward to its release, James.

I'm partial to the integrated CD player, but would like to have a digital input. I may have to opt for the DAC.

Will schematics be made available for the DAC?
