Where to sell old equipment?
« on: 28 Sep 2006, 09:58 pm »
Hello. I have been following this board for awhile. You guys seem like such a great bunch of helpful guys I thought I would seek out some assistance.

How do you go about selling your old equipment? I have never sold any old A/V equipment as I have usually kept it until it stopped working. Unfortunately this won't be much of an upgrade but, due to changes in my setup, I am going to have to part from my beloved Maggies. I know of eBay but have also wondered if anyone has used Audiogon? It seems like a lot of people sell quality equipment on Audiogon and even specify local pickup (a must since I got rid of the boxes in the last move b/c I never would have dreamed of giving these speakers up).

Any experiences with either of these or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would have come and introduced myself at the Sound Room tonite, but I am unable to make it.

Thanks in advance,
Craig

Craig,

PM sent your way.  Wasn't sure about breaking any AudioCircle posting rules.

I'm sorry. I was not trying to break any rules. Thanks.

Hiya Craig,

Welcome to the group!

No worries about the rules, no blood, no foul. Tell you what, you could start by listing your Maggies right here on Audio Circle in the Trading Post.

You can list them for free. I'd be sure to take some pics and upload them to the AC Gallery. If you aren't looking to ship them, just specify local pick up only.

I think Steve K, Sturgus and Alex have all bought and sold on AGon. They should be able to chime in with their experiences.

Be sure to check in often, I think we should have an October meeting announcement coming up pretty soon.

I have sold quite a bit of audio gear over on Agon, and have had great success. They now charge $6 to post an ad, but the site gets a lot of traffic from audiophiles. I've also sold some items over here on AC too...both sites get my hearty recommendation.

Yes, posting your equipment for sale here is a great thing, and it's free.  And don't worry...no one here at Audio Circle will even pretend that this forum is centered around a buying/selling marketplace like Audiogon is.  Audiogon represents the obvious choice for selling hi-end gear.  I have had tremendous luck selling there.  I've sold a couple things here, but mostly lower buck items, or items that are represented here on manufacturers circles.  Good luck, just make sure you post good pics.

Craig,

I didn't mean to imply that you were breaking any rules.  I sent the little bit of info I had via PM to hopefully not break any rules MYSELF.  Sorry if that post created any confusion.

Again, good luck with your sale.

Thanks for everyone's replies. I will definitely check out the AudioCircle section and Audiogon. I have never sold anything like this before and it seems kind of nerve-wracking to take the pictures, do the writeup, etc.

Oh well, once I sell them at least I can have some fun looking for new ones.

Thanks again,
Craig

Craig,

You gotta try the list.  I mean if you don't use Craig's List, who would?   Here is a link to DC area page.  You can click on your city.  People using Craig's list tend to be bottom feeders but sales are supposed to be locally made without shipping.  Good luck.
