 Would appreciate input from anyone who's made the comparison as mains in 2 ch systems.

Bob is actually doing a comparison with several monitors.  One of them is a VR1.  I think he lives in New Jersey.  Give him a pm.

I had the LCR-15s as mains after auditioning the VR1s at Eighth Nerve several years back. The LCR-15s will go deeper; the VR1s be a bit more articulate. With that said, these weaknesses were relative. The LCR-15s still performed admirably in the upper frequency range, and the same could be said of the VR1s in the low end, particularly given their size. If you ever go the subwoofer route, you'll want the VR1s.

I personally found the LCR15s too laidback for my tastes over time (though I have somewhat atypical musical and listening tastes). I'm sure others will agree with this characterization, while others may not. So subjective is this strange little world in which wander!
