Mapleshade speaker stands?
« on: 24 Sep 2006, 10:26 pm »
Hey guys

I'm purchasing a pair of NuForce S-9 speakers

http://www.nuforce.com/products-speakers.htm

and am looking at speaker stands for them.  I've always been curious about Mapleshade's monitor speaker stands and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them?

Thanks!

Jim

Have you read "the rest of the story"?  According to Sperry, you're supposed to sit on the floor against the rear wall to get the full effect.  Personally I'm too old for that.

seems like you should break-in the speakers, then get the stands as you'll have 30 days to listen and find out if they work well for you, in your system.

JDUBS,

I would recommend you wait as well until after you get the speakers and spend some time auditioning them before you commit to a speaker stand.

The Mapleshade stands in particular may not be a good matching due to the design of the speakers and the design of the stands. You'll know better once you get them.

Hello Jim,

Those NuForce speakers look ridiculously sweet.

I own a pair of OmegaLoudSpeaker Super 3v2 speakers, and I use the Mapleshade Bedrock (not ultra) with thick carpet piercing footers with aplomb.  They cost half as much as the speakers themselves, but I can confidently recommend them nonetheless.  I use them in a finished basement with concrete foundation covered with carpet and padding.  Pierre Sprey commented that concrete is the worst thing on which you can place your components (suspended wood being the best).  Still the improvements in these already fantastic speakers was welcomed with open arms.  The soundstage opened up and focused very noticeably, the bass cleaned-up and became a bit more powerful and deeper, and there was more of a sense of the music happening as opposed to being forced from the speakers.  These will allow your speakers to perform at their very best.

Do you homework on what's available.  I spent more time than I should, and I haven't found a more relevant design at any cost.  The build quality is superb, the design is striking, and they even look really cool (although this didn't play into my decision very much, just icing on the cake).

Although Pierre's verbal descriptions verge on the hyperbole, his engineering background is near frightening.  Better yet, he uses his music-loving ears as the final testing instrument.  Subjective?  Yes.  Effective?  Very.

If I had a limitless supply of money, these are still the stands I would buy without exception.  Try them for yourself.  If you don't love them, just send 'em back

Thanks guys!  I'm super pumped to get these speakers.  I was strongly considering the GedLee Summas as a more efficient alternative, but ended up with these (thanks for the strong recommendation Abe!!).

The NuForce guys are recommending Sound Anchors stands (3 and 4 post models):

These look nice, too, but I'm partial to wood-based solutions

Thanks again, everyone!

The Sound Anchors are definitely sturdy and heavy, but I agree that the Mapleshades are more attractive.  Their rooted buttress stands look very nice.

I would try anything from Mapleshade. I've spoken to Pierre on a few occasions and read about his background....if he says it works, I'm willing to give it a shot. I've been wanting to order some plinths from him for a while now, but just haven't gotten around to it. It will be one of my next additions, though. I have carpet over concrete too, so I want to see if getting them up on the maple helps.
