Anyone heard the BV Audio preamp?
« on: 19 Jun 2003, 04:07 pm »
I'm thinking about matching this preamp with an AVA Fetvalve 550ex power amp.  Supposedly, the P-1 preamp can be a little dry sounding, is very detail-oriented, but faithful to the recording.  By pairing it with the Fetvalve, maybe I could get the detail but lessen the dryness?  Any thoughts would be appreciated.  BTW, my old system was all Spectral/MIT, so I am used to a more analytical type of sound.  However, I also wanted more warmth in that set-up.

Bill,

Have not heard that equipment...but...

My old system was Spectral too! I really miss it.    I had Avalon Eidelons too. That was the bomb!

Cheers,
Bill

Say Bill, if you still have the Eidelon's, I reckon I could store them for you, until you found room for them that is :-)

There is a guy over at AA or Audiogon forum that posted on this pre, he had nothing but good things to say about it.

I own a P1, and a PA300. Extraordinarily neutral. I was using a Sony DVP 9000ES, but just got the new Xindak SCD-2. Great match, tube output from the SCD-2 with the phenomenal neutrality of BVaudio. There are several reviews posted on their site.

Tweak1 is also a BV Audio dealer, although his signature is a bit weak in that department..............

spectralman, have you looked into the AVA preamps? Just wondering, as they have tube and hybrid preamps, and they seem to be highly regarded by some other members on this site.

Hi John,

Yes, the other preamp I'm looking into is the AVA Transcendence 7 SL.  I was just curious about the BV pre as there are not many owner reviews out there.  Thanks.

BVaudio P1 preamplifier

What attracted me to the BVaudio P1 was their implimentation of designs that got rid of conventional thinking volume pots. I have owned various active (Klyne 7.3LXB, Modulous 3A- moded, CJ PV 12- also moded/NOS tubes, various passive units including autoformer based dual mono designs. The BVaudio P1 is a breath of fresh aire in my system, and unlike many of the ones I've owned, the price is very blue collar.  Another nice feature of the P1 is that it incorportes BVaudio's Sound Refiner SR 10 circuit, allowing you to mix amps without notorious impedence problems. The remote also includes a handy mute switch, plus you have a near infinite control of volume.

The best place to make a decision is in your own system. If you try one, I doubt you'll return it.

Someone posted that I am a BV dealer, true enough (it is a part of my signature), however that should give more credibility to my comments because I have owned, and have access to a wide variety of products. I have happily settled in with BV amp/ preamp, and SR 10s.

Last Friday I added the latest version of the Xindak SCD-2 (tube output), replacing my Sony DVP 9000 ES, and became even more impressed with my BV kit!
