I've been to a lot of concerts over the years......more than I can remember.....and some that I know I was at because I kept the ticket stub but I sure don't remember a damn thing that happened. I guess it was a 70's thing.

The first concert I ever attended was Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes in July of 1971. They performed on the back of a 40' flatbed trailer after a motocross race I was at in St Charles Missouri. I still remember sweaty Teddy screaming his head off while he performed Papa's Will. Not the greatest concert I've seen but surely a memorable one.

If I had to narrow all of the concerts I've seen over the years to just two, it would be these.....

Number 2 would be the Blue Man Grouup, The Complex Tour.

I never expected what I witnessed at that concert. These guys started with an opening blow right to throat and then held us down and then beat us senseless for almost two hours. It was the best sound I've ever hear at a concert before. Clean, clear, and dynamic. The visual show was just as good if not better than the audio. The concert DVD that is out only tells about 1/10th of the story. This was a concert you had to experience to believe.

My number 1 would have to be Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival

I won't cut and paste all the performers but here's a link to the lineup for those three days.

The Saturday night Blues jam was simply phenominal. It had Hubert Sumlin, Jimmie Vaughn, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray (Robert Randolph not shown far right). It wasn't because I had press passes, though that helped, it was because of the talent that was assembled all in the same place at the same time. This was a modern day Woodstock for the Blues (and then some). Something that will likely never take place again.

heres the link to just a few of the pics I snapped that weekend...

Genesis - Trick of the Tail tour 1976. Always a prog fan; I have seen YES 12 times but this show was awesome. Peter had just left and Phil had something to prove. Phil and Chester on drums, just an incredible show. Saw them at Vanderbilt and the sound was perfect.

Saw YES 3 years ago at the Chicago Theater; Rick Wakeman had just rejoined and I had third row seats in front of Steve Howe. Howe is better than ever. My favorite band.

Here's the Jaco pic. BTW, this was during "Birdland".
It's a little beaten up, but hope you enjoy.

And while I'm at it, here's an oldy, from probably 1990ish-

I'm pretty sure this is Randy Jackson of Idol fame.

It was taken at a Jean-Luc Ponty show at Rutgers U.

Beautiful pix, Scott F and mfsoa!

Scott, speaking of sound, Woodstock was a revelation in that regard as well although, strangely, I have seen it dissed in the only reference to it I have come across. Although the scale was massive and I was sitting about 3/4 way back in the audience, the level was what I would have chosen in a living room and the sound quality was basically perfect to my ears.

The other aspect of Woodstock that I have never seen mentioned and as far as I know was not represented in the movie was the light show. Easily the best I've seen, it was projected on a huge sheet behind the stage and was amazingly appropriate to the music being played at the moment. I think the people responsible were called "Lighthouse" and I think they were from New York.
