Honest Repair from Meniscus
« on: 28 Aug 2006, 04:19 pm »
In a society structured to make the quick buck, it has been a pleasure to deal with companies like Bolder Cable and GR Research. I've never had anything but honest answers and quality work with outstanding warranty service.  I can now add Meniscus Audio to the list.  They sell speaker components and do speaker/driver repairs.

In the process of soldering a lead on a Scanspeak $400 tweeter I broke the voice coil lead.  I sent it to Meniscus to see if they could repair it and found out that it is one of the few drivers Scanspeak makes for which there is no voice coil replacement.  Chad, at Meniscus, also sells this tweeter.  Expecting the worst and a phone call telling me it couldn't be fixed, I reflected upon my stupidity.

I then received a call from Chad only to say he fixed it for $25 and it was fine.

OK, he has the absolute ability to sell me a $400 tweeter no questions asked and he fixes it for $25.

Thought the folks on AC should know about this breath of fresh air.  Temporarily restores my faith in humanity.  And thanks to Mike Galusha, my endless source of audio knowledge, for recommending this fine company.

Are you talking about the Scanspeak R2904/7000 tweeter?

I have only seen that tweeter used in the upper end Von Schweikert speakers. I believe they start using it with the VR-5SE & up.

What type of speaker are you using that tweeter in?

Thanks

That is the tweeter. They were used by the now defunct Meadowlark Co. in the Blue Heron IIs I own.  Magico uses them in the Mini and I believe Wilson uses this tweeter as an ambiance re-firing tweeter in the new version of the Alexandria.  Don't know who else is using it.

Escalante Design is using it in their top-of-the-line Fremont.

I have always wondered how that tweeter sounds.
