Digital Cable Music Choice
« on: 24 Aug 2006, 06:16 pm »
Hello all, I listen to Music Choice from my digital cable box as backround music when I am not playing Cds .
I now use a digital interconnects to watch DD TV but use the analog outputs from the cablebox to listen to music. I was thinking of upgrading the analog interconnects from the cablebox to something like a audioquest Jaguar with DBS , Would this upgrade improve sound or is it a waste of $$  since the signal out of the cable box is limited ?
Thanks~

Why not use the digital out for Music Choice?

Wasted.

Digital out into an inexpensive DAC might help.  I can't imagine a built in DAC card in a cable box would be very good.  My wife listens to digital music on her FIOS box and I, at least, have it digital going out into our Outlaw processor figuring DA is better there than in the FIOS box.

I use the analog outputs for 2 reasons
1 My AVR will not let me use any digital inputs for zone 2 (myoutdoor speakers)
2 I just find it easer to use the AVR and set it to Stereo on the DBS input analog -If I use the Digital input it will decode out tp PL2 not two channel

I sometimes use my AV rig to break in new gear (running a cable box 24/7 keeps me from having to wear down a transport spinning a CD 24/7).  Have gone thru a bunch of Music Choice channels, and it definitely seems like they compress the music...I get much better bass and high frequency extension coming out of channels like TNT and ESPN than even the techno/electronica Music Choice channels.  So I'm guessing it's not worth spending much money on upgrading your ICs...

Thanks , so you think I should use the digital coax or Toslink fiber  insted of the analog outputs for TV DD watching and Music ?
If so will a good digital cable be better than an something like a audioquest VDM-1(digital coax)or a Optlink 1 audioquest .
