Dear Mr. H.,
Thanks for the kind response. I've two candidates for PS chokes, both given to me by my pal and triode guru, Ho.
The 10H is 180ohms DCR and the 15H is 60mA and 250ohms DCR. The 15's an NOS Freed and I know the current rating because it's printed on the cap. The smaller value 10H is physically larger and just as heavy so I'm assuming it can handle at least twice a healthy Cornet's current. I don't know how to measure ESR.
In any case, I think I'll go ahead with the 10H model. It's got black crinkle paint and a cool riveted tag. (It seems I've become a bit of an iron-porn guy) It appears to be well-shielded.
I do have one more question before I start to build. Your diagram has a note at C14 that says, "Re-connect to make separate star ground!" I'm not sure what you mean by, "re-connect."
I've been thinking a lot about grounding for this project. (I'm a "quiet freak") I've read and re-read tons of grounding primers on the web (Strain's and Duncan's are excellent) and in old Sound Practices articles. I even went so far as to purchase a couple feet of square, 12ga. tinned bus wire. Clean, naked ground schemes tickle my visual lobe.
Anyway, in addition to the note at C14, might you offer a few grubby details about grounding points?
Thanks again for the sweet design and the gracious support. I'm anxious to hear how the octal Cornet compares to my competent 12AX7 phono stage. mg
