Hi all,

My friends from Harmonic Discord would remember me.

I just thought I'll tell you the latest on my Norh CD-1, which I was fortunate to have bought before they stopped production of these beautiful music makers.  The original Matsushita drive finally gave up the ghost.  So I replaced it with a new Philips drive.  What do you know!  The old Norh started playing music better than ever before, same smooth, silky notes, but better.  Higher resolution, zero distortion at higher decibels.  So I'm delighted.

A 10,000-album-collection, hard-core vinyl buff buddy came to visit and he had to admit that CD is not too bad after all, especially when channelled through tubes, like the Norh does. 

Since I've not been around these parts much, I wonder whether there are any Norh owners around.

Hey Marbles. How you doing, buddy?     Long time no talk, huh?  Lotsa action around here I see.  Nice.  Very nice.  You've done good, pal!

As for the model #, now there's the rub.   I meant to make a note of it, but didn't.  I'm running it in as I write. I'll open the cover when done and let you know.

BTW, is Jay still active here?

P.S. I see you still have your bottle of champagne.  Just looking at your avatar makes me thirsty!

Jay shows up from time to time, but I would not call him "active" here.

I sure liked my CD-1.  The two reasons why I sold it were it lost synch with my dac too frequently, and the power switch was in the back.  If the power switch had been in the front, I could have found other systems to put it in.

Best of luck with it, as it is a killer player.

After selling my marble 9.0's and regreting it, decided I better not make the same mistake with my cd1.  Sure glad I kept it, been enjoying this excellent cd player since day one.

Knock on wood, no problems or issues to date.

You still got your marble Norh 9.0s, Marbles, the speakers you used to rave about and, as I recall, what inspired your avatar name?

Pity you got rid of yours. Jeff.  Don't they make them anymore?

Michael was not able to help when the Matsushita drive went kaput, except to say that I could look for a replacement, which is what I did.  It turned out good.

No, Marbles, I take the question back. I just checked out your system and I don't see the Norh 9.0s there!  You sure didn't forget the most important component in your mighty impressive system though - the bar!

I still have 2 pair of column shaped marble 9.0's..the only 2 pairs in the world....they are much easier to place than the horn shaped ones.  I also have 5 marble 4.0's, 3 are used as the fronts for my wifes HT and a pair are used by a son in his bedroom with a nOrh sub that I upgraded.  The nOrh sub now uses a TC Sounds 10" driver.

I also have a pair of Prism 5.2's with a 4.1 Prism center channel.

I still like my nOrh speakers.

The larger pair of Column 9.0's I use in my office and listen to them every workday.

Sold my marble 9.0's when my kids were born.  The thought of a 75 pound speaker falling on them forced my hand a bit.

Like Rob, still have marble 4.0's in a home theater environment.  Great speaker for that cause.

Hope you stick around for a while, a/c is a nice place.  Though I generally just visit more than post.

Thanks, Jeff.  In fact, I joined up immediately after this site was launched, but then the vagaries of life intervened.  This, indeed, is a good place.  I'm happy to be back among my sound fanatic friends (lots and lotsa new people, too), and we go way back, don't we?

Still got mine, although it's silent. It was the attention to this unit back in the Harmonic Discord days that prompted my to buy a cdp from Thailand sight unseen. I must say that I enjoyed several years of it's sonic attributes, but alas, it was a fragile unit that didn't like to be tweaked. Every mod that I performed on it produced a problem, although after the problem was solved, it sounded much more refined. I replaced the diodes- dac chip failed??? One has Nothing to do with the other. Replaced the dac chip-all is well again and better than before. I replaced 2 of the 3 pair of op amps-no problems, but Huge improvement. Finally, I figured I'd replace the last set of op amps and ... Dead. Thing lights up, displays all zeros, drawer won't open. No response to any controls, either remote or on the panel. Put it down to one of two IC's; one has been back-ordered for over a year-I moved on. Too bad, a nice sounding cdp. It's not like I'm a klutz, btw, I've done many mods and still do, not to mention build new projects without incident. Anyone want to buy a lightly used QDS-15?
