Choke in the Octal Cornet's PS?
« on: 21 Aug 2006, 11:28 pm »
Dear Mr. Hagerman, I've a couple nice vintage chokes in the pile. I was thinking of adding either the 10H or the 15H (both their current ratings are high enough). I'd top-mount it (my chassis's big enough) after C10 and add another 47uF cap after the choke and before R2. I'd adjust R2 to get 325V @ R6.

Wha'd'ya think? Any benefit? Detriment?

Again, I got 'em, so no extra cost.

Thanks for the great design. Finally got all my parts and can't wait to start soldering.

Should be ok.  Always helps to have decent filtering.  I left the chokes out of the original design as they end up adding a lot to the cost.  What is the ESR of the choke?

I don't know how much difference it will make.  One customer tried the same and reported benefit.  I'm pretty sure it won't hurt anything (unless it picks up too much stray field from the power tranny).

jh :)
