new to the forum so hello to all who may help... uk based. with a new pair of nuforce 8.2 .. with the p-8 pre.. i get a buzzing sound from the speakers when the cd player is on .. its not to noticable but when there is a silence in the music i can hear it ..??? any sugestions

Sounds like a ground loop problem.  Try lifting the ground on the cd player.

Are all the components plugged into the same AC outlet? If not, try that first.

Is the cable between the CD player and the preamp using RCA connectors? If so, make sure the cable is mechanically sound and is not being routed next to AC power cords. How long is this interconnect?

Unless your CD player has a ground lift switch that disconnects the signal ground from the chassis ground, but keeps the chassis connected to the safety ground then "lifting the ground" introduces a safety hazzard. It is against electrical code and dangerous. You can do it temporarily to troubleshoot the problem, but it is not a permanent solution.

If my memory serves me well, I remember reading on other forums that the NuForce amps are prone to introducing noise into your system. If this is correct or not you will have to be the judge.

Necessarily?  PS Audio sells power cables that allow the user to remove the ground pin.

They state that normally there is no safety hazzard lifting the chassis from ground.

Please note, I'm not trying to be argumentative, I'd honestly like to know.  I currently have the ground pin removed from my PS Audio PC going to my preamp to attenuate a ground loop buzz.

Yes, I've seen that and I'm surprised someone hasn't sued them yet. I guess they are willing to take that risk. Personally, I think it's irresponsible.

You're correct. Unless there is a short to the chassis there is no safety risk and no need for the safety ground. However, the electrical code can not make that assumption for public safety reasons.

I think using an isolation transformer is a better solution for breaking the ground loop. It's usually RCA cables that allow ground loops. You place the transformer inline with the offending cables.

You don't mention what speakers they are but if they are Hemp drivers and you are smoking them, I think the buzz is normal

Sorry, couldn't resist. On a more serious side, if I recall, there was another discussion about this on the NuForce forum. Have you gone through their own forum yet to see if your question has already been answered?

 I do agree with the others in that it does sound to be a ground situation but without further details, it's hard to know for sure.

 Again, I would go through the NuForce forum to see what has been mentioned. Jason is very good about answering questions here on the Circle.

thanks for the info i will give feed back soon to let you know how i get on ... 2 babies means i have to assemble then disassemble my system each time. great  responses i think i will learn a lot from this forum.

i used the advice given and bingo its gone... i made sure the rca connector was away from the mains cable and also disconnected the earth fron the cd plug many thanks .......... more problems to come ??????????  who knows
