Which kit?
« on: 14 Aug 2006, 08:05 am »
I am thinking about an autumn project. I want to build an amplifier, based on a kit.
I have trannies, alot of caps and all other stuff to make a hi-end psu, and would like advice on a truly hi-end kit.
The first that comes in mind is the AKSA kits, and I can see that they have a new project called the Lifeforce 55.
According to the forum it is supposed to be superior to their other kits. But when I read on their webpage it says it is only available to existing aksa builder.
Why is that?
Therefore I guess AKSA is out of the question.
Any more good kits?

Best Regards

The lifeforce is the commercial product, but is being offered as an upgrade to existing owners. It's not supplied as a kit, but as a prebuilt module. You can still buy the kits (just not the lifeforce).

An AKSA 55 would be a good start.  This is very reasonably priced, with the option to upgrade later to Nirvana plus (or even the Lifeforce).

I have lived with one for the last two years, and have no desire to upgrade my power amp.

Absolutely have to agree.

Greg's SKA is 'bleeding edge' design. He's an accomplished no BS Hi End designer. Once you've heard an SKA you don't go back. Here's a link -

and his tweaks are free, if needed.

hi bambadoo,

I recommend you have a good look at the AKSA. My 4 year old AKSA 55 has proven to be excellent. Hugh's support and help is out standing, if needed. Another important aspect is the Aspen Amplifier forum here at AudioCircle, an excellent source of help and inspiration.  :thumb:

I think the SKA looks interesting.
The AKSA also, but when I read that I can buy one version, but not another that is supposed to be superior I kind of lost interest.

I guess I will place an order for the SKA modules. Maybe 4 of them.
