Hi Wayne,

I was wondering if you are aware of a good linear PS option like the Elpac that I can use with 220-240V mains?  I'm hoping on keeping my investment under the $200 mark.  I guess for the worst case I could stick the Elpac into a transformer, but I'd rather avoid even more tangle than I have, plus I have no idea how that would change the sound, if at all.

I am not aware of an ELPAC type linear PS available for 220-240 VAC input.

You may be able to find one of my old Basic PS used, that I can rewire for 240.

Farnell in the UK is supposed to offer a 240 VAC in, 5 VDC 1.5 amp out

I know nothing about the PS or even if it will work with your AC outlets.

The open frame units, like the Power-One will work ( I just came up with a mod for these), but you will have to supply a case to mount the unit in, and wire the unit to AC mains input and a DC connector.

These come up from time to time on e-bay.

Here is one. You may be able to find others. If you buy used, I do suggest you have the caps changed out. Electrolytic caps should be replaced after about 10 years.

have you had any succes in finding a good power supply ?  I'll be in the same situation as you when I get my SB...

Elpac is offering other power supply wich support 100- 240v   but i'm not sure about the quality of those...

Robert - The Sandan ps from Farnell is a poor design, lacking any load sharing resistors on the parlleled 7805 regulators. Its life expectancy, and quality is limited. Lacking any other alternatives, you'd do well to replace those paralleled 7805s with a single heatsinked LT1086-5.
Inevitably, the included capacitors will be of lesser quality. Again, they'd benefit from replacement. Given the above, I'd suggest a different ps.

Getting worried , I'll not be able to get a good power supply, would a 110V-220V converter be bad for the sound quality?

Robert - these are all switching supplies, no go. Not that switching supplies are by definintion bad... its just that these, for this application are.
Iff'n you want to discuss PSs in general, and not specific to Waynes products, your questions should be in a non Vendor specific circle.

Robert didn't you say in your Squeeze box post that you are in Netherlands?

Search for a linear regulated supply either on eBay or google it for results at home.

If you (like me) are persuaded of the merits of Waynes power supply offerings use a step down transformer - my understanding is it shouldn't hurt the result providing it can handle the current.

Beatdownvictim has posted his Bolder Teac / stock SB / Bolder Basic PS for sale in Trading Post - buy the lot and get it shipped to Wayne. He can rewire the PS for 220v AND do the mods on the SB

If the worst comes to the worst you could buy the Farnell from UK and use a travel adapter.

Occam has extolled the virtues of balanced power often and I remember him providing a link in one thread (Felicia?) to industrial site transformers that we use in the UK. Hopefully he will chime in but iirc they provide 2 x 55v lines and will then run any US voltage equipment PROVIDED the 50 / 60 hz thing isn't a problem.

Thanks for your suggestion, but I'm not really interested in the TEAC, I would need to get some efficient speakers. So what power supply do you have? the elpac modded one? I could have a look at the prices of the step down transformers. Occam just said that the farnell ones are of not so great quality.

Hello, thanks for all the suggestions on the PS, I bought "Beatdownvictim's" SB2 and bolder basic power supply, I'm going to get it rewired to 240V and modded by bolder ( as well as the sb2).
