Salk HT3 or VMPS RM30

Now wouldn't that be an interesting showdown in the price performance scale?

From what I believe these two speakers, are real high flyers. We all know the beauty of the Salk cabinetry, but in sheer transparency, detail, - audio performance, I wonder which is the better speaker?

Maybe some of you have heard them both?

I had a fully loaded pair of RM40's, now I have a fully loaded pair of HT3's. I prefer the HT3's.

There have been many, many threads and posts on this topic already. If you do a search you can find lots to read.

I will say that there have been a handful of people who owned VMPS RM 30's or 40's and sold them in favor of the Salk HT3's.

I am one of the people who switched and found the HT3's superior in all areas.

I've seen only 1 pair of HT3 up for sale in the past couple years so they must be extremely good.

Never heard salk HT3's but I replaced my VMPS RM30's with Polk Audio lsi15's. These are really great speakers http://www.onhifi.com/product/2002_productsoftheyear.htm

You replaced a $4K VMPS RM30 with a $1700 Polk speaker?? Now, that is very interesting.
Care to tell us what you like about the Polk over the RM30?

I haven't heard Salk speakers but I do have RM40s. I am curious about the HT3s and I would like to hear them some time. I have heard comments from knowledgeble Salk owners who know VMPS speakers to know that
Salks are good speakers. As to whether I would like it over my speakers is hard to say. I have done a lot of tweaking and system matching to make my RM40s sound pretty darned good for me. Like anything in this hobby, the associate gear can really "flavor" the speakers and I like the sound of my big tubes on the VMPS ribbons. Both speakers I believe have high performance to cost ratio. In the end it will come to personal taste in music, looks, perceived value and the buyer/owner's relationship with the manufacturer/dealer.

P.S. I have oldie but goody Polk SDAs I use for HT and they do not compare to my RM40s. Some maintain that old SDAs are better than the new Polk models.

Come on. There is a big difference between Bud and Sammy Adams.

I would use Sierra Nevada instead of Bud for analogy.

As you've probably figured out, this guy is a shill. He's been posting at Audio Asylum as "soundideas" and at HomeTheaterTalk.com as "Mike Warren", and likely other places too. woodsyi....You can hear the Salk's at Gordy's....he's got a nice pair of HT3's...bring over your amps. I think they will surprise you....

A person that rarely ever posts here came over to hear my Van Alstine Fetvalve 550 that ordered a pair of Salk HT3's. He'd gone over to a woman's home in Vancouver, WA which is only minutes from here to hear the Salk HT3's she has and ordered a pair. My point being I got the impression he'd be very happy with the Vmps RM 40's also. It had been obvious that the RM 40's in my set up impressed him ALOT! He did say "Wow" which leads me to believe that last statement.

The main thing everyone has to remember is that Maggies, which are rarely discussed in these forums, have been extremely popular for years. I couldn't personally be happy with them. Mainly due to their poor bass and dynamics. That doesn't mean that the literally thousands of people who own them should enjoy them one bit less. My taste is different. I'm 53 and drive a modded Z 28 for a daily driver which is also our family car as my wife drives a Miata which obviously would only hold two out of three of us.

I'd suspect a number of the manufacturers here offer some great speakers for the money but in every price class the sound will be different from the different designers. Note I said different, not necessarily better as that's upto the person listening.
