Cymbal Friendly Speakers
« on: 10 Aug 2006, 04:43 pm »
For you Cymbal users, what reasonably priced DIY or factory built speakers have you found to be "friendly" to the Cymbals. I am leaning towards the Madisound BK-16 horns because they are a complete DIY kit but The Horn Shoppe product looks interesting as well. Comments and suggestions?
I have completed the Cornet 2 and Clarinet kits and am just starting the Cymbals.

I do not have suggestions, but do have a comment on the Horne Shop horns.  I auditioned a pair at the local used audio store about 4 months ago.  They just didn't have enough oomph for my tastes.  It would be nice if you could audition a pair before making a decision!  Peace.  Robert

Web, if you are interested in single-driver speakers, the Horns are excellent.  I assume Robert thought they lacked bass and they may have under the circumstances he heard them.  I think they are well balanced if placed properly and maybe that was compromised during the in-store demo.  I use a sub crossed over at 40 Hz because I have no corners for loading.  Most owners don't see a need to bass reinforcement.

Of course, audio flavors are very personal choices and everyone hears a little differently.  I wish you luck on finding speakers and Robert is right to audition whenever possible.
