iMod question
« on: 8 Aug 2006, 01:08 am »
I am intrigued by the the iMod, but I have a question.

Is it possible to replace my 60GB hard drive with a bigger hard drive? Assuming of course that I provide the hard drive?

Hi nelamvr6,

The 60GB hard drive is the largest one that will fit inside of the iPod case.

Best regards,

Vinnie

Are we talking about physical dimensions or power requirements?

If a hard drive becomes available that will fit could you guys perform this mod?

Thanks.

Good question.  My guess is that it is more of a physical dimensions issue than a power requirement issue.  Those iPod hard drives (made by Toshiba) are tiny and consume very little power.  However, I'm not sure if anyone is going to make a larger storage version with the same dimensions and connector as the one iPod uses.  They are made specifically for apple (there is an apple logo on the hard drive) for the iPod.

Also, the hard drive interface for the new iPod Video (5th Gen) is different than the other iPod hard drive interfaces.  Another guess of mine is that they are going to continue with this new interface, and larger hard drive versions of the iPod (beyond 60GB) will only be available with the latest iPod that they will come out with.
