I can't speak to any additional requirements for the Chime, but I beleive that the USB spec allows for a maximum of 15' cables before requiring a repeater.

I’m running a 15 foot and another 10 foot extension. I also used a 15 foot and a 15 foot buffered extension. Both sounded alike.
