McAlister Audio is in the process of updating its webpage: www.mcalisteraudio.com.  They have some new models: a 22 Wpc SET, a new line stage and phone preamp, and a pair of 130 W Monoblocks, to name a few of the products that have recently been added.  The whole line of models also has a new look that represents a big improvement over previous offerings from McAlister.  And there is more to come as the updated product line is not yet complete.  The prices have also gone up slightly, but according to everyone I have talked with, this equipment produces excellent sound, period, regardless of price.

Anyone else, here, like the new products, new looks?

The monoblocs look nice, but I can't seem to find much information about the EL504 or EL509 tubes.  Don't particularly want to buy an amp that I can't readily replace the tubes on.

Anyone know of a source for these type tubes?

These are sweep (TV) tubes - very high voltage, I think.  Not many people use them.  Peter designs many of his circuits (both SET and PP) around sweep tubes.  They are usually quite inexpensive.  Write to him.

They are overly abundant! Biggest problem is finding a tube seller that has even bothered going thought the endless boxes of tubes and gotten any of them out. Since they are cheap and there is NO money to be made selling them, they are forgoten about but again are readily available.

A couple of amp builders and reconditioners whom i have talked with say that many of these sweep tubes have excellent sonic properties, are well made, reliable and will take peak voltages that would kill many other tubes.

What do you think?

Hey Eric,
Everyone's equipment, room environment and ears are different.I like the SE-30 amp I have owned for 3 years, I have an SE-44 on order right now as well as a preamp with phono stage. There are numerous reviews out on Peter's equipment in various discussion groups, try Google.
People on the forum/discussion groups generally don't lie about equipment they have purchased and "lived" with. Audiogon and eBay is full of stuff people are not "satisfied" with.

And to all the guys waiting patiently for your units, hang in there, help is on the way. Keep you posted.
