I recently ordered a None Felt turntable mat from Extremephono. This was to replace the felt mat that was supplied with the MMF-5.

I am quite happy with the results and the cost, in terms of the audio world, was a reasonable $32.00.

That said, I was browsing the tool section at Lowes home improvement center today and happend to notice a roll of "KOBALT" brand toolbox tray liner. This appears to be the same material the None Felt mat is made from. It may not be the same, but it looks and feels identical and I strongly suspect it's the same stuff. The price? $14.95 for a roll 22" wide and 118" long. Enough to cut out a nice dozen platter mats if you liked.

That seems about right for your typical "audiophile" markup. It reminds me of those Iso-blocks,etc, that go anywhere from $10-$30... unless of coarse you go to a hardware machining site where these vibration pads run in the neighborhood of $2.00.   Whatsha gonna do?? Oh ya, learn the hard way! Regards, Robin

Interesting... tool tray liner.... I thought it was that carpet grippy stuff.  Maybe they're the same?

In any case, the technology makes sense as long as your record weight or clamp doesn't flatten it.

Also, check your records.... Some of that stuff has a tendency to transfer.... The tool box liner I use leaves black stuff on my tools sometimes.

The important thing is that you're happy with it... :)

I originally saw that stuff marketed as a grippy mat to perform certain wood working maneuvers. It claimed to eliminate the need for clamping during planing and sanding. I'm sure there are many producers of the stuff so as mentioned before make sure it doesnt mark your surfaces.
