HagClock Questions
« on: 17 Jul 2006, 07:41 pm »
I installed the HagClock on my Samsung HD-841 yesterday, it seems functioning properly, +/- 8v power from player's power supply section.able to
play cd,sacd & dvd-audio. I noticed the LED (D4) was'nt lite up at the board.
I removed the LED and checked, found no contiunity on both direction. possible a internally opened LED. Can I use a jumper, diod or a resistor to replace the LED(D4)? Or any suggestion?

Best regards,

Sidney Ma

The LED might have been in backwards.  Or you're operating without a negative supply.  Oddly, it will work ok, but not up to acceptable performance.  Check the outputs on the onboard regulators.  I have test point holes marked on the board.

A new LED installed last night and problem solved,it sounds good.

I'm thinking to replace the clock on my Marantz SA8260, dose it work on a 33.8688 xtal?

Best regards,

33M is a bit out of the circuit's range, which was optimized for 16M.  I believe at the higher rates it is common to operate on the 3rd harmonic of the xtal.  HAGCLOCK works in fundamental mode.

On the other hand, we have had several HAGCLOCKs running at 27M.  So it is possible to get one to work.  Just not recommended.

Do you consider to come up somethings that will make your HagClcok to accommodate 33m xtal in the further?

The reason that I ask because I'm very delight the end results of your HagClock that I installed to the Samsung HD841. I A/B the HagClock Samsung HD841 with Marantz SA8260 and I was so surprised. I even compared my friend's player, it is the same player but he bought from RAM with AudioCom SuperClock 3 installed. I was not very impressed with SuperClock's price/performance ratio.

For the Diyers who has this player and interested in clock upgrade just go for it.
All you need to do just to remove five components: ZY1(27m xtal), ZR78(surface mount resistor 75 ohm), ZR24(surface mount resistor 330k ohm), ZC37(surface mount capacitor 22p) and ZC39(surface mount capacitor 22p). Install a
jumper to replace ZR78, locate the input pad by use your meter to perform a continuity check between ZR78 and ZY1 and mark the pad with continuity present, this is the location for connect HagClock's ACK, connect HagClock's GND to ZY1's close by ground pad. VCC connect to PEF21 capacitor's positive side to get +8v. VEE connect to PEF22 capacitor's positive side to get -8v and that's all I did to upgrade the HagClock to my Samsung HD841. Service manual can order from samsungparts.com for about $30 with s/h.

I wish this will help anyone who try to upgrade their player with HagClcck.

Thanks Jim for all your help and looking forward to see your HagClock works with 33mxtal.

Probably not.  I don't sell enough of these things to justify it.
