diyparadise Charlize amp

I have seen some very good reviews of this piece.  The big surprise to me is the postive things written about it w/ regard to being driven by a switch mode power supply which is usually a sore point.
The proprietor is selling a plug and play version, I assume w/ the air core inductors and in an enclosure w/ a SMPS, delivered for $373.   Anybody personally familiar w/ this product and willing to share your impressions?

It does sound very nice, probably the best unmodified t-amp out there.  The little 10uF electrolytic caps on the inputs do seem to tame the highs and make the amp less fatiguing, but at 10uf, the turn-on thump will wake you up when using efficient speakers.  It does have the Tripath signature, so you should be pleased if t-amps interest you.

I found that the SMPS sounds identical to using a battery with capacitance when playing through Horn Shoppe speakers.

The bare board is somewhat pre-wired and easy to implement, and SMPS are cheap on ebay.  I'd opt for a little bench time and save money, but I like that sort of thing.

I have a pair of Sonus Faber Concertino Home bookshelves on factory stands that I didn't think I would ever be able to sell and I moved them over to my girlfriends house and hooked them to an old Sony solid state receiver and a Sony CD/SACD changer that was a big improvement over what she had before but it gives me a headache.  Those speakers are 88 dB and very benign 6 ohm impedance and I had been using them w/ my EE Minimax power and preamp and they worked just fine.  I got a pair of Vandersteen 1C's that are a much better match for the EE pair.  I am fairly familiar w/ the T-amp "sound" and maybe the "Charlize" has enough grunt for the Concertinos and would look finished enough for the surroundings?

That sounds like a nice "girlfriend" system.  I'm doing something similar with some Polks and a Charlize for my girlfriend and it's satisfying.  I've paired a few t-amps with similar small 2-ways and have been happy with the results, especially at bargain prices.

Good speakers for the girlfriend system using a SI type amp would be Fostex FE126E drivers in Parts Express 0.38 cu. ft. pre-finished cabinets (blank removable baffles) with 2 1/8 inch diameter x 5 inch port.  About $200 total for a pair of small nice looking cabinets and 93 dB/w/m speakers with F3 of 61 Hz.

I bought a smps rs-25-12

My friend says that it had good specs...I don't really know about DIY stuff.  But I build it anyway.

Best of luck.
