I posted this over at Harmonic-Discord, and someone told me to come here, so I thought I'd just repost (almost) verbatim (if this is the wrong forum, moderator, please feel free to move -- I couldn't find any speaker forum per se):

Anyone heard Reimer Tetons?  I am thinking of auditioning them along with some other speakers (this is a long-term shopping, not gonna buy anything anytime soon, and definitely not without auditioning first).

Basically, I am looking for the following criteria:

20Hz-20kHz +/- 3db
91+ sensitivity (preferably closer to 94)
good phase response

Soliloquy 6.5?
JBL K2?
sub and bookshelf (or, e.g. perhaps Moth Cicada?) -- think I might have trouble with the crossovers on that one -- anyone know any subwoofers that have really nice crossovers?

Someone already recommended to me:  vmps rm40's; gr-research alpha-ls's.

The Reimer Tetons are very LIVE sounding!  The speaker has gotten show awards.

Many professional reviewers (at least 2 I know of) have them as their reference.   Definitely try to audition them....

re: subs w/monitors, that's how i run my present rig.  even tho i lust after big full-range speakers, i willstill keep my subwoofer system if/when the big monitors ever show up.  imo, it allows the main speaks to perform better.  

but, as you said, good x-over is crucial.  as far as subs w/nice x-overs, there are none that i'm aware of.     at least none that i could afford.  i would strongly recommend passive subs w/outboard active x-overs & amplification.  while it may seem intimidating at 1st, to set up a system in this manner, in the long run, it's far more flexible, & you will end up w/far better subs *and* electronics, at any price-point, if you do subwoofing in this manner.  i am really happy w/my marchand xm-9LL active x-over & a pair of vmps larger subs.  pick any decent used solid-state amp(s) to match.  if you spend four times as much $$$ on powered subs, you *might* get close to the performance...

I've gone the sub + high efficiency bookshelf route myself. I have Omega TS-1's (96 db/watt) with ACI passive inline filters (6 db/octave at 85 hz) running into my amp. I'll be damned if I can detect any loss of transparency with the inline filters inserted, although I'm waiting for my new digital front end to arrive before closing that issue in my mind.

For the sub I got a Rava SE (with the 24db/octave crossover). It wasn't hard to blend the sub in very nicely with the satellites - I think the 24db/octave slope is key here. Plus, I prefer the "faster" sealed sub sound, especially with a quick bookshelf speaker like the Omeaga's. I am still experiementing with small adjustments that make the bass more or less full in the corossover region. It's nice to have that flexibility.

If you're interested in a cheap system that doesn't require you to wait... the Adire HE10 ($279) plus Rava Sub ($399) is a really great full range solution.  They blend together perfectly, and the price is hard to beat... provided you can screw some cabinets together.

95dB efficient, and full range.

I also really like having a level control on the sub, as that allows you to give oomph to the bass for music that needs it (e.g. reggae, rock, rap, etc...)

You could possibly consider the Tyler Acoustics Linbrook Signature system which I use. It's a full range monitor with passive bass modules. The system does play from 25kHz - 25Hz, 92 db sensitivity @ 4 ohms nominal.

I had some integration problems earlier on but the speakers are now sounding better and better.  Well worth auditioning and Ty Lashbrook is a real pleasure to deal with.

The MM DeCapo i by Reference 3A is a 92 dB/w/m 2-way small monitor that has always been well reviewed.  It has almost no crossover (the woofer has nothing but wire between it and the amp).  It goes down to about 40 Hz on it's own, so a sub may not be necessary, but if added would be crossing over very low.  Cost $2,500.00/pair.

Another very promising standmount speaker is the timepiece 2.0.  Rated down to 30 Hz, but only 85 dB/w/m.  It features lots of design thought and technology including waveguide loaded tweeter, constrained layer cabinetry, and modified transmission line bass loading.  Shouldn't need a sub for normally sized residental rooms.  Cost $2,800.00/pair

Thanks everyone for the thoughtful replies.

Yes, I've heard quite a few good things about those Reference 3A MM DeCapo i's, they're already on my list.  That crossoverless woofer is particularly enticing.  I thought there was another model of that in the works?  Not really another model, just a transmission line/stand to accentuate the lower frequencies.  (Will do some research in the forum.)

I will definitely audition those Reimer Tetons.

And yes, I will look into all the other models recommended, also.  Thanks.
