D'Appolito speakers
« on: 6 Jul 2006, 05:29 am »

Hello I have just bought a pair of D'Appolito speakers, (the ones with the tweeter in between the 2 drivers,) I have to buy a pair of stands for these, and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or experience in working out the height the stands would have to be, is it the same as other speakers with the tweeter at about the height of the listeners ear when in the listening position, any help would be very welcome
Regards Roger

FWIW-My GR Research P3s' (floorstanders) drivers are in that configuration and the tweeters are 31 inches of the floor.

You are completely correct: Tweeters at ear height is considered "proper" for an MTM.  I use 26" stands with my Diluceos.  My ears are usually a bit above and facing the top driver.  It'll depend on your listening chair, height, and such... 24" might be more typical.  It also depends, of course, on how big your speakers are; I've seen some fairly huge MTM designs.

just because they have a mtm array does not make them a D'Appolito configuration, there are other things(crossover settings, matched drivers with close speced design) that go into the equation.

Excellent point!

FREO: start with the tweeter at ear level, then perhaps move your body an inch or two up and down and see where things sound best. i know the old KEF 104/2 (D'Appolito configuration) loved tweeter at ear level.
