Ok, here are some of the promised pictures:

Under construction:

Here's one with my Zigmahornets

Their current location in my room (messy, I know):

How does my placement and whatnot look?

SET Man, the change from the zigmahornets is pretty massive. I still like full range, but I'll need something a little more substantial than the little 4 inchers to compete with these guys. Maybe my next project (hopefully not for quite a while!)

After listening for a while I'm still highly impressed with the speakers, and REALLY glad I went with them. They were sort of my original want as far as kits, and I think they are the best suited to my needs.  Thanks everyone!

Hey!

powderific, Man! you did all the wood cutting? Niceeeeee!  8) Thanks for the pictures. Always fun to see work in progress from start to finish.

I don't know how big is your room but from the photos the RC3R look like a good size for your room. But from the spec they will need more power with thier 85dB sensitivity.

Anyway, I know it is a big step in SPL and fq extension from those 4". I guess that is why I did not fool around with 4" single driver, and just settled on 6"... a good compromised for my room and listening SPL. :D

I'm sure they sound different then xoverless single driver... well every speaker desings have thier own advantage and disadvantage. You just have to find what you could live with.

And if you ever want to come back to world of  single driver in the future.... one with low bass... may I suggest the Fostex F200A. Not really hi-ef but in a right cab it could pumped out bass like some big multi-way speaker but still have that single driver sound! :o

Well, in spirit of DIYer... again congratulation!!!! And now just sit back and enjoy the music :D Oh! now I think you could crank things up right? :drums:

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Glad the speakers are everything you expected.  :thumb:  Rick is a great guy and a heck of a designer with good ears!   Not sure how the HK is power wise, but if you get the chance to borrow some separates,(amp) you might hear more pop from the 8545 woofer.

I had my RC3R's hooked up to an Denon 4802 receiver and the sound was thin an not very engaging, of course that could just be the sound of the receiver!

SET Man, I got the friend that helped me build these speakers into single drivers and he has a set of 6" MLTQW towers that sound really nice. I think something similar with the F200A could be interesting, but I'm also considering open baffle for my next project. That's still at least a year or two off though.

Mark, I don't really know anyone else who is into higher end audio, so I don't have access to any seperates. I'd almost be afraid to try it, as I'd probably be jonesing for a new amp too! Really they sound excellent to me already, is 120 watts per channel really that low for this sort of speaker? I guess I always assumed, perhaps naively, that it wasn't that big of deal if I didn't listen at higher volumes.

Right now the only other audio expense I plan on covering is some different speaker wire and interconnects. I'd usually assume that such things are snake oil, but what I have right now is pretty low grade. Even if I don't notice any difference, the interconnects I'm using right now are really long and some shorter ones would help out the mess of wires behind my computer.

I have the Fostex F200A drivers and love em.  Distant friends tell that they also do some really nice things in open baffle too, but mine are in Bob Brines mass loaded transmission line cabinets and as SET man says, the depth/volume of bass is amazing for single driver speakers.  IMO the driver in single driver speakers have no place to hide, so quality is vitally important.

Madisound may still have the smaller brother, the F120A.  It is less expensive, but would then require a sub for music, so it is probably a better choice for audio/HT combined use.  Fostex has tried pulling both from the U.S. market.
