Question about Tang Band driver based speakers
« on: 6 Jun 2003, 01:03 am »
I am finishing the cabinets for the Tang band computer speakers I am building.  According to CSS's website the recommended cabinets should be

The ELF1.0 uses a single W3-871S driver and the recommended cabinet measures 6.5” (W) X 7.5” (H) X 7.25” (D) assuming ¾” material.

which I for the most part stuck to (volume fixed but edited a little on dim).

Does anyone know if this volume assumes it will be ported or sealed?

I haven't modeled the box but I believe the ELF is a ported design

yeah, what I thought but wasn't sure.  that is what this is...the elf 1.0 w/o box, I built my own and I got this killer veneer that I can't wait to see on the finish speaker.

Josh,
I am building something very similar, but I have increased the internal dimensions to try for an F3 point more similar to a pair of nOrh 3.0's.  I do have a complete set of plans for the ELF 1.0 and it calls for a 1" diameter port that is 3/4" in length.  CSS sells them pretty cheap, but you have to cut them as they come 4" in length.

I am curious as to the veneer you will be using.  Is it the iron-on type or something else?  Also, did you round over the edges of tha baffle to make veneering easier?

Regards,

RDS

I used my router to round over the edges on the front.  The veneer is called Sapele Pomel, I saw it and bid on ebay.  It is stuff you cement on.

Yep I live in NYC and still manage to use a router.  Wife doesn't care for the dust I make but I do all my work in the kitchen cause it is easy to clean up.

Here is the veneer I chose:
