lonewolfny42, the Chesky CD was a demonstration/test CD for two channel application which has since been discontinued and been replaced by a multichannel test/demonstration CD.
I think there is still a need for this type test CD. At the time it was produced
it was the only one of it's kind and this is still the case as nothing has emerged
to replace it to my knowledge.

The Sonus test CD with LEDR (track 51) mentioned in Bob Katz's 1989 Stereophile article (http://www.stereophile.com/features/772/) is still available .... but at US$129 !!! http://www.prosoundeffects.com/ss-ref-disc.html

Well, not this little black duck

Me too have just ordered a copy of this CD. As I'm just setting up my system I need all the help. I have already bought the more expensive "XlO Reference Recordings Test & Burn-In CD" but was disappointed with what it offers.

Idiots guide to imaging

See the little picture?  The two monitors are about 6 feet apart, pulled out in the center of the room.  The little round thing in the middle that i sit on is uually about 3-6 feet out.  See the sloping walls and the wooden floors?  You don't see the rest of the bad acoustic features.

Hifi equipment creates imaging; rooms destroy it.  I listen in the near field at low levels.  It's like being on stage at an unplugged concert.

These monitors are very good imagers and very cheap used Quad 12Ls

Good points Frihed91.  Takes care of many problems, but most audionuts want it all.

My nearfield setup/practices are similar to your's, but have added room treatments in my dedicated room.  And my speakers are larger, single driver design for improved coherence/imaging.  IMO the tendency is to listen at unrealistically high sould pressure levels, which only adds to the bass loading and imaging smearing problems.

That's the middle of my stue (living room).  Actually, the whole apartment is a loft and this room is about 60 feet long with (and not including)  bedrooms at both ends.  It's a little wider than a 1-lane bowling lane.  Or is it?

Some rooms are pretty untreatable.

as to the Chesky disc, is this not it?

I don't see any mention that it is unavailable or not stereo, but I haven't queried them (yet).

I used this disc 11 years ago, particularly the LEDR track which really got me thinking as to what factor made the effect so good on some speakers and so bad on others. It was difficult to predict how a speaker would perform on this, and we had lots of great speakers (and amps) to experiment with, it being a high end store.

That's the one I purchased, Russell.

It'll be interesting to see how the Timepieces perform, given your experiences.
