Any reason for Nirvana upgrade...
« on: 28 Jun 2006, 06:23 pm »
if I'm going to be building four Aksa 55s to run two Linkwitz Orions?  Each channel of the Aksa would go directly to a driver of the Orions (which have active crossovers).  I ask because it will cost me another 240x4 or 960 US dollars for the upgrade.

Hi CTV,

Thanks for the post, and appreciate the question.

There are a couple of Orion/N+ owners on this board;  PT914 (Phil) and Aurelius (Mark) feature prominently.  Perhaps a PM to them would be helpful, as I'm a tad biased.......  Suffice to say, the N+ is markedly better than the stocker.

When you are ready, please email me to discuss your plans.

Cheers,

Hugh

ctviggen,
Well I'm biased too -
I built a stock AKSA100 first - stacks up well against some very big brand names. I had a 210W/ Channel ROTEL which the AKSA100 left for dead.
then added the Nivarna upgrade - quite an improvement

I built a AKSA55 Nivarna next - did'nt bother with the stock 55
then added the N+ option - quite an improvement.
I've even added a few "over the top mods" beyond the N+ arrangement

Finished my 2nd 55N+ last night and have left it playing to itself (to "break in") while I went off to work.

If you can afford the extra I really do recommend the N or even better the N+ mods, especially as you seem to have  not skimped on the speakers.

Cheers,
Ian
