Best Box Sets?
« on: 25 Jun 2006, 10:35 pm »
I'm looking to buy some new music and thought box sets would be a nice place to start.  I listen to all kinds of music so I'm looking for recommendations on well done box sets for various artists, musical genres, and periods.  Preferably ones that have been remastered or come from the original master tapes.

For instance, I was at Best Buy today and was going to buy a Motown boxset, Martin Scorsecse presents "The Blues" and Rolling Stones Box Sets but then I figured let me ask around first.

Thanks,

The best box set I have is James Brown Star Time.  I think they remastered the Rolling Stones singles box set a few years ago.  IIRC it's called London Years or something like that.

I did see the James Brown Star Time Box Set and I was about to get that one but again decided to wait but glad to hear it's an enjoying one, will add to my list.

surprised to see that the Talking Heads Box Set was so expensive at $150.  I do like a few of their songs but am real curious to see what's in that little box for $150, probably ever CD their ever made and a some DVD's.  I mean the James Brown set was only $55, doesn't seem to add up. Anybody have the Talking Heads box set?

I have the Once in a Lifetime box set by the talking heads, but I paid like $60 for it.  It's great.

Exactly, Abkco remastered The London Years at the same time as all the earlier studio albums for the sacd releases.

Here's a good place for shopping for box sets... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/291920/ref=br_mh_1_bs/102-1206983-9588150

The Heads box is available for $102 just as an example...

It's a dual disc though, gotta be careful... some players won't recognize them as they don't meet redbook code due to the thickness I think  :?
