My current system is jury rigged 5.1 (three Adcom GFP-750 pre-amps, Hales Rev. 3s {3 across the front} with Triangle Zephyrs for rear action-Llano amplification and Cary CD303 and Rotel DVD-A front ends).

I want to start fresh. I'll likely re-rig the above for a two channel system.

I want to build a 5.1 audio system from scratch for SACD and DVD-A.
Right now I'm leaning McCormack. Their unreleased UDP-1 ($3K) seems like the front end for me. The MAP-1 ($2.35K) seems, and sounds, like a great analog 5.1 pre-amp.

What would you guys do-is there another 5.1 pre-amp that would be worth a listen?

What about amplification?

BTW-The New White Stripe CD "Elephant" is greatness.

Speakers?

I want the total bill to be between $9K and $12K.

I want all new gear.

Anyone familiar with the Oddyssey amps?
Belles amps?
Meadowlark Osprey speakers?
PMC speakers?

Thanks.

I totally agree on the White Stripes comment.  I have heard great things about the McCormack pieces you ask about but have not heard them so I will be silent.

Hey EDS,

I highly recommend you take a 20 minute drive over to Garland to visit Dodd Audio and listen to his tube amps and tube pre-amps.

His world class efforts are actually very affordable, and you'll be blown away by what you hear.

I would suggest VMPS RM-2's all around (with the new FST Tweeter), and a VMPS Larger sub.

For Amps, I really like the Audio by Van Alstine stuff.  These are great amps.
