Bi-amping with a passive linestage
« on: 19 Jun 2006, 02:35 am »
I'm now back to considering a passive LC again.  My Shanling CDP has an extremely low output imp. of 300ohm, while the Carissa amp I'll be using has a huge value of 180K.

This would seem to be a match made in passive LC heaven, but for the caveat that I'm bi-amping with a bass amp for the 2nd voicecoils of my Gallo Ref 3's woofers.

Furthermore, the input impedance of the amp I'm currently using for this stinks: 20K ohms.

I'd go with Gallo's own SA bass amp if it had a much higher input impedance, but they don't seem to publish it and I can't find it.  Anybody happen to know?

Does anybody think this is even worth trying with a 20K ohm impedance on one of the amps?  I think this will put a heavy burden on the source and I'll lose dynamics.

By the way, sorry for all the questions lately.  System changing, you know.  Lots of thinking.

I'd stay with an active passive.

JMHO.
