I will be receiving TRL's latest upgraded Sony DVP-NS900V. TRL upgraded their mod. to this player about a month ago. Besides the outboard battery supply, they have improved their circuit board and power supply. Paul at TRL has no doubt that this is currently the best digital player availble regardless of price. I look forward to receiving my player next week and will keep you informed about my impressions. Stay Tuned.

I received the TRL player. The player is currently in the break-in process. Paul says complete break-in is about 3 weeks. I am on my second day. My player doesn't have the outboard battery supply as I expected. It does have the upgraded circuit redesign. Paul thought I should try without battery first. Once I near the completion of break-in, I'll post my impressions.

Well, after about 72hrs of constant play, this player has woken-up. Hello! Ya Baby! Its sounding soooo good! At this point, the sound exceeds any player I have owned, surpassing my previous favorite, the APL HiFi SACD1000. I'll continue updates as player continues to brake-in.

Does the sound exceed your other players in the usual audiophile categories, or can you make some specific comparisons? Would you consider the TRL to be more detailed?

I actually purchased my unit from John Beavers, the positive-feedback reviewer. This was the same unit used at the CES mentioned in the thread offered by Lonewolf. I contacted Paul about Brian's unit and he told me that he had a new upgrade since the CES that offered much better performance. I had Brian ship the unit directly to Paul at TRL for the new upgrade.

Tvad, this unit excells at all of the usual audio catergories and then some. It certainly is more transparent and openly expressive over the APL SACD 1000. I'm early in the break-in process and would rather wait longer before getting into specifics.

Earl, I gotta believe you if you owned the apl1000, I am gonna give TRL another try, I owned the earlier version of the 900V, and the 595, 5 disc, but, if what you are hearing is true, I certainly would rather save the $$$ be foe going with the NWO-2.  Please keep us UTD

I recently purchased the battery powered option for my TRL Sony 900. The batteries offered a major improvement over the standard mod. It took around a week on repeat for the player to open up with or without the battery supply and around 2 to 3 weeks to fully blossom.

No I'm not Brian Kyle although I agree that the battery power improves 'resolution transparency, dynamics, openness, bass control, and midrange... even more musical than the non-battery powered TRL Sony 900V" as he said at Audiogon.

I heard that Brian really likes his gold faceplate battery powered 900. I heard mine with the latest mods on the standard unit and with the battery supply. It is a major improvement. Well worth the extra $750.

I had a discussion with Brian about the comparison of the new upgraded TRL 900 with and without the battery power supply. He has both units and thinks highly of both. He has not done a A/B comparison yet. He promised me that he would within the next week. He is suppose to get back with me about the comparison.

No, I never got back to him nor did he get back to me. Paul and Brian from TRL assured me though that the battery power supply was an improvement, however, they thought that the TRL Marantz 8001 was better than the 900 with battery supply. In fact, they don't offer a battery supply for the Marantz player.
