What do you sing along too?

I have been singing John Henry and especially Erie Canal. I usually enjoy a little sing along to Dave Mathews and Dire Straits on certain songs, usually in the car.

The ballad part of "Question" by The Moody Blues:

It's not the way you say it
when you do those things to me

it's more the way that you mean it

when you tell me what will be.

And when you stop and think about it
you won't believe it's true.
That all the love you've been giving
has all been meant for you.

I'm looking for someone to change my life

I'm looking for a miracle in my life.
And if you could see
what it's done to me

to lose the love I knew
you'd safely lead me through.

Between the silence of the mountains
and the crashing of the sea
there lies a land I once lived in
and she's waiting there for me.
But in the grey of the morning
my mind becomes confused
between the dead and the sleeping
and the road that I must choose.

I'm looking for someone to change my life

I'm looking for a miracle in my life.
And if you could see
what it's done to me

to lose the love I knew
you'd safely lead me through.
the land that I once knew

to learn as we grow old

the secrets of our soul.

It's not the way that you say it
when you do those things to me.
It's more the way you really mean it

when you tell me what will be.

I saw them in concert a couple years back and everyone was singing along with that one. Beautiful.

I've had about 35 years to get it right, even then, just to be safe I copied and pasted from another website! :D

If your voice is anything below a tenor it's pretty difficult to sing along with most music out there I've found. I envy the Rob Halfords and Geddy Lees of the world who can belt it out. (e.g. "BEYOND the realms of death...", "...like a spiral SEA UNENDING!!!")

I never sing along while the song is playing, but I will at other times.  Usually it's Bathory; something from Blood On Ice or Twilight Of The Gods.  Quorthon doesn't usually hit too many high notes.

Where would you place Billy Corgan? Not that I sing to any Smashing Pumpkins...

Singing to sound like the way the artists does is hard, singing in your own voice works well but sounds funny then. That is what I think.

All I know of them is from their couple of radio hits from long ago, in ancient times. In the Age Of Grunge... (*summons an allofmp3 preview stream*)  From what I remember I'd place him in the nasal\whiny category and I don't necessarily mean that in an insulting way, but it's just a fact that he has a very whiny voice. Singers affect their voices in different ways, his sounds like he's making a concerted effort to have that whine tone.  I guess overall it is fairly high pitched.  (Ah-ha, so the damn song is called "Cherub Rock" not "Honey", had a helluva time finding it...)

Actually affecting the tone of a particular singer is obviously difficult, with Barry White being an excellent example.  Those super rich pipes are all genetic, there's no way you could fake it even if you were in the same range.  I remember listening to a hilarious outtake of Barry White doing a radio advertisement and he wasn't getting it right and was cursing left and right.  Hey lookit, here's a link to the MP3:
