Integrated Amp Dead, need help/advice
« on: 29 May 2006, 05:10 pm »
I have an integrated tube amp.   I turned it on and the tubes on one side did not light and the KT 88s for the other channel were showing purle colored light going buzurk up and down the tube.  The speaker on that side was going crazy with static, the other side completely dead.   I'm think I had a power surge or something.  Would that fry an amp like that?  Or could I just have some burnt out fuses?  Any insight would be appreciated.  Thanks

Hello there.
What amplifier is this you are having problems with? Stock? There are a few things that could be going on here but without knowing a bit more about the product, it's hard to even start.

It is the Cayin A-88-T Integrated.   I checked the fuse, everything is fine there.  I replaced the fuse just to make sure, but the same thing happens when I turn the power on.  The tubes on the left go crazy with purple lights and the speaker has static.  The other side of the amp is completely dead.  Strange.

Is this one of the newer versions? It should be under warranty. If not, feel free to give me a call on Wednesday and I would be happy to walk through this to see what might be going on. There are a multiple of issues that could be happening. First things first, have you tried replacing the tubes? The bias could also be partially to blame for the tubes glowing excessively but not the tubes that do not light.

if under warranty ,the best place for service is back to the dealer, saves
you big bucks, from what you have described the amp is surely having
a fault .
